Wiki Loves Folklore 2025 - 1 February to 31 March 2025
Sharing Turkey's intangible cultural heritage with the world

Wiki Loves Folklore 2025 is an international photographic competition to enjoy and celebrate the cultural diversity from around the World through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons). Everybody can participate. In addition to photography, awards are also given in audio and video recordings of folk culture. It is the first time Wiki Loves Folklore is organized in Turkey and by Wikimedia Community User Group Turkey.

We call everyone living or visiting Turkey to upload self-produced photographs, video or audio files related to the country's culture, traditions, handicrafts, folk dances, folk dances, local music, daily life to Commons.wikimedia.org

The uploaded files will be evaluated by an international jury and awards will be given in the following categories: Photography, Video, Audio.

Recommendations

Before participating, we recommend that you check the rules page.

Criteria for photos

  • Technical quality
  • Originality
  • Potential usefulness and overall value of the image (including its licensing) to the Wikimedia projects

Be careful when taking photos

  • Please be respectful and considerate to your fellow photographers, and to others.
  • If you are photographing building interiors, stop straight away if you are asked to do so. Some places prohibit interior photography, but in others you may be allowed to continue if you ask for permission.

Do not trespass on private property (it is perfectly OK, though, to take photographs while standing in a public place such as the street).

  • Where possible avoid photographing vehicles, and particularly vehicle numberplates.
  • Please do not upload photographs of posters, noticeboards, signs, or anything else having text or two-dimensional images that might be copyright-protected. That applies even to text or images that are in a public place and that everyone else is taking pictures of. Ancient wall paintings in churches are fine, as are photos of stained glass windows of any date.

Be careful when uploading videos

Other files, such as audio and video, are welcome. For videos, please submit files in the following formats: .ogg .ogv .webm .

  • Due to complex intellectual property rights issues, Wikimedia Commons can not accept video content that is submitted in any other format. A helpful 'how to' guide on how to convert video media into these formats can be found here on Wikimedia Commons. It is suggested that you upload video content one video at a time.
  • Please note: Images uploaded on Wikimedia Commons must be under Commons scope. Out of scope images can be deleted without notice. Copyright violations and Vandalism will be strictly dealt with and can even lead a block. Kindly read the FAQ page for further useful information on this contest.

Don't forget to add descriptions

Please remember to add as much information as possible about the files you upload for the competition. For example, you should describe the place where you took the photo, the date, what it is about and what does it tell about the culture. This will help the judges to evaluate the potential usefulness for Wikimedia projects and help wikimedians to use them at Wikipedia articles.
