Rules
[edit]- Rule 1: Contributors uploading media must possess the copyrights to the submitted content.
- Rule 2: Photos should be submitted between the designated period of 1st February to 31st March 2024. While historical photographs are accepted (provided the uploader holds the copyright), they must be uploaded within the contest timeframe.
- Rule 3: All entries must be licensed under a free copyright license or released into the public domain. The recommended license is Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0), as facilitated by the upload wizard.
- Rule 4: Each eligible image must be identified by tagging it with {{Wiki Loves Folklore 2024}}. This tag is automatically applied when using the dedicated blue button with the special upload link on the main contest page.
- Rule 5: Eligible submissions include photos associated with any of the listed categories.
- Rule 6: Participants are required to enable email communication on Wikimedia Commons to facilitate contact in case their image is selected for a prize.
Notes on videos
[edit]Other files, such as audio and video, are welcome. For videos, please submit files in the following formats: .ogg .ogv .webm .
- Due to complex intellectual property rights issues, Wikimedia Commons can not accept video content that is submitted in any other format. A helpful 'how to' guide on how to convert video media into these formats can be found here on Wikimedia Commons. It is suggested that you upload video content one video at a time.
- Please note: Images uploaded on Wikimedia Commons must be under Commons scope. Out of scope images can be deleted without notice. Copyright violations and Vandalism will be strictly dealt with and can even lead a block. Kindly read the FAQ page for further useful information on this contest.
Ineligibility
[edit]- Re-uploading Restriction: Entries that are already present on Wikimedia Commons are ineligible for submission. Re-uploading of images is not permitted.
- Scope Compatibility: All entries must align with the scope of Wikimedia Commons. Submissions that deviate from this scope will be disqualified, and there is a possibility of deletion without prior notice.
- Exclusion of Watermarks, Timestamps, and Credits: Images featuring watermarks, timestamps, or image credits on the visual content itself, or any other form of editing associating the image with the uploader, are not considered eligible for the contest.
- Prohibition of Pornographic Content: Pornographic images and videos are strictly prohibited and will not be accepted as valid entries in the contest.
Judging criteria

- Narrative Impact: A compelling photograph should convey a meaningful story that engages the viewer.
- Focus and Distraction Minimization: A noteworthy photo adeptly eliminates unnecessary distractions, ensuring that the main subject remains the focal point.
- Usefulness and Value to Wikimedia Projects: The potential utility and overall contribution of the image to Wikimedia projects, considering factors such as licensing, will be assessed.
- Technical Excellence: Technical aspects, including but not limited to focus, lighting, saturation, and ISO levels, will be scrutinized to determine the overall quality of the image.
The jury will evaluate each entry based on the following key criteria:
- Technical Quality: Assessing the proficiency and precision in the technical execution of the photograph.
- Originality: Recognizing and rewarding creativity, uniqueness, and innovative approaches in capturing the subject.
- Usefulness and Value to Wikimedia Projects: Evaluating the potential impact and value of the image within the context of Wikimedia projects, including considerations of licensing and broader utility.
