Mld not collapsed
m:Meta:Language_select is on by default, but for example cat:snow shows me a long list of names. The gadget is supposed to collapse all foreign languages right?--Roy17 (talk) 10:41, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

can't figure out what's wrong with this png
I can't tell what's wrong with File:HD 40307g 39x27 CMYK-1.png - it's a png exported from Photoshop based on a tiff. I've tried reuploading and reexporting and embedding the color profile. I can't figure out what's wrong with it? — Rhododendrites talk | 19:12, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- What is what you expect and what happens instead? It's not necessarily happening for every browser, operating system, or machine. -- Rillke(q?) 00:37, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Rillke: The file doesn't display on the file page -- just a "broken" icon and a text link, but if I click that link the fullsize opens as normal. It also doesn't show up in an FPC nomination I started or in a Wikipedia article. No issue for you? — Rhododendrites talk | 04:30, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
- Oh wait, weird. When I just wrote this, the problem was still there. But it's resolved now, seemingly spontaneously... — Rhododendrites talk | 04:41, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
- This problem (not showing images properly) is something I have experienced before. I think this is a server-side problem, but I don't know why exactly this happens. Ahmadtalk 13:54, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
[VideoWiki tool] abusefilter-warning-review
Hello, VideoWiki as some of you might already know takes text and images from Wikimedia Commons based on a user written script. Articles such created can be seen at Category:Videowiki. The project is in its nascent stage. It tool which generates these video files was previously working fine, but lately we have been encountering an error while attempting to upload to Wikimedia Commons. Currently we have an OAuth consumer key registered, we use that to authenticate users via WCommons and we store user's token keys to be able to upload the generated videos on their behalf when the video is generated, we run a script that initiate a request to upload the video to WCommons using the WCommons API action=upload. However when the application does so, we get the error "abusefilter-warning-review" (ref: Image 1) which causes the upload to fail. Please help us to resolve this issue, thanks in advance. Initially posting it here, not sure if this belongs here or on Phabricator. KCVelaga (VideoWiki) (talk) 11:00, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
- You can see the description of the error by prefixing it with MediaWiki. So in this case, the page: MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-review. Basically, the tool is marking the image as reviewed, but the user does not have image-reviewer rights, so an error is generated. Bawolff (talk) 22:35, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In will soon take place again! Mentor tasks to help new contributors!
Hi everybody! Google Code-in (GCI) will soon take place again - a seven week long contest for 13-17 year old students to contribute to free software projects. Tasks should take an experienced contributor about two or three hours and can be of the categories Code, Documentation/Training, Outreach/Research, Quality Assurance, and User Interface/Design. Do you have any Lua, template, gadget/script or similar task that would benefit your wiki? Or maybe some of your tools need better documentation? If so, and you can imagine enjoying mentoring such a task to help a new contributor, please check out mw:Google Code-in/2019 and become a mentor. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at our talk page. Many thanks in advance! --Martin Urbanec 07:28, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
Why is July 30 and July 31 missing? --2A02:810D:6C0:2FB0:E09A:AD92:F0F8:CF90 16:24, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
- Commons:Deletion requests/2019/07/30 doesn't exist, so not having it in the July DR board is normal, but Commons:Deletion requests/2019/07/31 does. I think this is a technical limit that automatically converts template transclusions into normal links after the page reaches a specific number of them (see also w:en:Wikipedia:Template limits). Data dump with imageinfo
I am looking for a Database dump that contains the imageinfo data of every page(but is small enough for a regular computer), preferable in JSON format.
Or do I have make 180.000 API requests to get this? --GPSLeo (talk) 12:51, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
- Does the
-image.sql.gz
of https://dumps.wikimedia.org/commonswiki/20191101/ work? --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 22:26, 7 November 2019 (UTC)- Thanks. But unfortunately that database does not contain the entityid of the files, so I can not use this to add statements. --GPSLeo (talk) 22:00, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
specialchars
What are specialchars? Is it a WMC setting, extension, core, etc.? Juandev (talk) 01:30, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
- Where did you see that? It's hard to give informed answer without context. – Ammarpad (talk) 01:54, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
I see that under edit window. Specialchars is its HTML div ID and it is surrounded by division called mw-editTools. --Juandev (talk) 23:45, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
So, than I can see its defined by MediaWiki:Edittools and MediaWiki:Edittools.css with appropriate JavaScript. So I wonder weather you need just to fill these to enable it working or how? --Juandev (talk) 23:50, 10 November 2019 (UTC)

Couldn't undo caption edit
I couldn't undo Special:Diff/375235550. (caption edit) I got this error (with header "Internal error"):
I now rolled it back instead, which was kinda acceptable in this case, but I'd rather have the option to undo and explain why I'm reverting. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 20:15, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Alexis Jazz: Please see #Internal error on File:HP-HP9000-425-Workstation 20.jpg and phab:T236320. It's currently impossible to "undo" a caption edit (though you can roll it back). Ahmadtalk 20:33, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

How to massively remove watermark from images?
Hi,
I want to upload some books from National Central Library (Taipei) (e.g.,[3]). Is there a way to massively remove the watermarks? --維基小霸王 (talk) 12:26, 16 November 2019 (UTC)
- Probably not. The watermarks are not added during the rendering process, but have been added to the base images. The viewer does not appear to be a zoomviewer, but downloads the full size scan which is already watermarked. Theoretically, you may be able to correct for the added watermark by deriving the watermark mask from multiple watermarked results, but this would be unique to the site and pretty (programmatically) hard image processing. --Fæ (talk) 12:40, 16 November 2019 (UTC)
- OK. I plan to upload them converted as PDFs. Let's wait to see if anyone could find a watermark-less source to replace them or could remove the watermarks using advanced technology.--維基小霸王 (talk) 12:50, 17 November 2019 (UTC)

Problems
- You will be able to read but not to edit some wikis for up to 30 minutes on 26 November at 06:00 (UTC). You can see which wikis. It will probably last much shorter than 30 minutes. This will also affect the
centralauth
database. This could for example affect changing passwords, logging in to new wikis, changing emails or global renames. [4]
Changes later this week
- You can soon vote on proposals for the Community Wishlist Survey. The survey decides what the Community Tech team will work on. You can vote on proposals from 20 November to 2 December. - File:Tbilisi (10).ogv
- File:İstanbul Akvaryum 04.ogv
- File:Bmx Life 01.ogv
Transcode status of these files doesn't look good to me. Will they ever be transcoded? Is there are any issue open for this on Phabricator. -- Eatcha (talk) 03:52, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- All these files got moved from .ogg to .ogv. --GPSLeo (talk) 10:21, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- When you move a file, it loses it's derivate transcodes, and it doesn't regenerate them automatically. It's a known limitation of the transcode system. phab:T156914 —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 09:41, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
A tool that helps easy editing of file descriptions?
Are there some built-in functions/gadgets/scripts that would let me click and edit and not have to load a page several times when I edit one file? Something like the slideshow gadget combined with VisualEditor.
W.r.t. https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Deletion_requests_November_2019&from=23%23File%3AMC , I am willing to help write down a brief description of what each photo shows, but opening every single file and clicking edit publish are way too tedious. AWB doesnt seem to offer photo thumbnails.--Roy17 (talk) 17:29, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

- The mobile beta mode will be disabled to have less maintenance. The developers will focus on the desktop improvements project. You can turn on advanced mobile contributions mode if you want to see the categories. You could also jump back to the top. This can instead be done with a gadget or user script. [5]
- Parsoid is software we use for the visual editor, content translation, Flow and the Android app. This has been rewritten. It will come to the wikis gradually over the next two weeks. It has been tested, but there could be some diffs or previews that don't look right. If you see any you can report them. [6]

New video player beta feature updates
I've posted a quick note on upcoming changes to the "New video player" beta feature, which we're hoping to take out of beta soon. I've made some major changes to show a larger player, have less impact on JavaScript download size, and work more comfortably on mobile. Please keep giving feedback either through the feedback page there or as tasks on Phabricator; there's plenty to keep improving! --brion (talk) 22:00, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
