UNESCO World Heritage cities are rich mosaics composed of buildings, streets, people and cultural practices. However, these diverse components The historic walled city of Harar is located in the eastern part of Ethiopia, 525 km from Addis Ababa, the capital, on a plateau cut by deep gorges and surrounded by desert and savannah. The protective walls surrounding this sacred city, considered the "fourth holy city" of Islam, were built between the 13th and 16th centuries. Five historical gates corresponded to the main roads leading to the city and divided it into five districts. However, this division no longer has a practical function today. The Harar Gate, from which five streets lead towards the centre, is recently constructed.
Calendar and prizes
The first prize is a voucher of 150 USD and the second prize is a voucher of 100 USD.
