Rationale
[edit]- Reason:
- Ricky212 appears to be have flickr account Rick212 [1] where they have dubiously claimed photos which look like professional photos belong to them. Prior to the apparence of these photos in December 2006, Rick212 made comments on flickr were they asked users to change the license of their photos for wikipedia because wikipedians don't accept good faith e.g. [2]. This suggests Rick212 had previous experience on wikipedia but there is no such user on wikipedia (Wikipedia:User:Rick212 and Wikipedia:User:Ricky212 don't exist). Wikipedia:User:THUGCHILDz does and did exist at the time and had apparent trouble accepting wikipedia's copyright policies [3]. THUGCHILDz has similarly brought up good faith in copyright circumstances
- One of the dubious photos in particular [4] is similar (not the same) to an earlier photo uploaded by Thugchildz on wikipedia Wikipedia:Image:World cup.jpg (see Wikipedia:User talk:Nil Einne#Re: Would it be possible) which was deleted as copyvio prior to the apperance of the Rick212 photo. Also, this photo is purported to be a replica of the trophy by Rick212. Thugchildz has purported that this means it doesn't have the copyright concerns of the original trophy. Although this is a misunderstanding of copyright law, it does make one wonder why rick212 claims it's a replica which it probably isn't.
- The times of when Ricky212 was active (including Wikipedia:User:THUGCHILDz on wikipedia) and particularly the way THUGCHILDz on commons was created ([5]) not long after Ricky212 stopped contribution also seems suspicious to me. It is a bit difficult to say since THUGCHILDz appears to edit for quite a long stretch of time on many days but in most cases Wikipedia:User:THUGCHILDz was active when Ricky212 was. Cf [6] and [7]).
- If it's not yet obvious, my concern here is that THUGCHILDz may have created Ricky212 so that he could try and upload un-free photos as his own work without raising suspicion. While it didn't work and Ricky212 has stopped contributing, if my suspicions are correct, I think THUGCHILDz needs a stern warning. (N.B. I cut a few details since my reason seemed too long)
- Just to be clear, I'm not asking to look into Wikipedia:User:THUGCHILDz as I hope the 2 commons users would be sufficient. Nil Einne 13:19, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit]- Comment as it stands this will not work as Rick212y's contributions will no longer be in the log after this time --Herby talk thyme 13:46, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oh ok then nevermind then. I wasn't aware it didn't go back very far although looking at Meta:CheckUser policy it does mention it's only there for a short time. I noticed this in late March and couldn't work out how to request a check user on the commons. I ended up just asking someone with checkuser privalages but never received a response. Must have been too late then anyway. I'm currently tying up loose ends so decided to look into it again. But I guess it doesn't matter much since whatever happened has stopped. - I'm not sure how long it last but six months will be out of time - if I can help nudge me - cheers --Herby talk thyme 14:07, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
