I increasingly come across problems like duplicate images or poorly named images, and it would be convenient if I could fix these things myself. I'm an administrator on English Wikipedia and have a good idea of how the technical and policy aspects of adminship work. As on Wikipedia, I expect to be primarily active in dealing with content rather than strictly administrative tasks like clearing backlogs and dealing with user complaints (though I can do those things when the need arises). In the course of browsing and categorizing on Commons, I come across enough opportunities to use the tools to make an adminship request worthwhile. Ragesoss 00:10, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • A few comments. 1) If I ask you a question, will you answer it? (re. your EnWP RfA ;). 2) You say in the nom that you've been coming across badnames and duplicates a bit, yet I can't really see any of this in your deleted edits. Have you been tagging them or anything? Otherwise (IMO) it's a bit hard to judge what's work you've been doing, how well accustomed to Commons practice you are, etc. (That said, your FPC work is great, from what I've seen, as is your overall photography, so keep that up!). giggy (:O) 00:44, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • 1) Yes, I'm happy to answer questions here. Commons is a considerably different environment, and from what I've seen, RfA is a process that works well here. In my English Wikipedia RfA, I was reacting to what I saw as a chronic problem with the way voters approached adminship requests.
    • 2) No, I haven't for the most part been tagging bad names and duplicates... for many of the ones I have tagged, they enter a large backlog, and simply remain tagged without getting addressed in a timely manner, so I often don't bother with it. This is why having the tools would be convenient... duplicates and bad names are small problems that I tend to ignore unless I can fix them quickly and easily myself. The method for doing admin tasks is different from the method non-admins use to accomplish the same tasks, so learning to use an admin tool for a new action is always a learning process (whether here or on Wikipedia) even if you know the non-admin side, but I think my responsible use of tools on Wikipedia should demonstrate that I'll be careful and take the time to learn how to perform admin actions correctly. Speedy deletions and renamings are not rocket science, and the guidelines are easy to follow (and I know where to find them any time I'm in doubt).--Ragesoss 01:42, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
