Commons:Requests and votes/Kylu
I am nominating Kylu (talk · contribs) for Admin here at Commons. Kylu is very helpful and has added a lot of value here already. Her contributions do not tell the whole story unless you look more closely. She has some interesting images in her gallery, and as you can see, many of them are related to making Wikimedia projects a better place. Also, she has been busily translating templates and other text into a multitude of languages, because she knows more languages (at least well enough to be useful) than just about anyone I know. She's also made some very useful scripts available locally (Lupin's popups script: [1] and Interiot's edit counter: [2] both customised for Commons).
For reference, she is an admin on en:wp, as well as having access (and doing useful things) on many other wikis (see the complete list at m:User:Kylu) Kylu is also the en:wp Mediation Cabal co-coordinator so can help in dealing with issues that might arise. She can, and will, still do lots of useful things if she's not approved, but imagine the good she can do if she is. I hope you'll join me in supporting her for Commons Admin. ++Lar: t/c 04:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hiya! Mm, Tarawneh has a very good point that there are, as a matter of policy, minimum standards for admins on Commons and that I don't meet these requirements quite yet. I do appreciate Lar's nomination very much, though! For the moment, I'm going to decline to accept nomination for adminship at this time. ~Kylu (u|t) 02:18, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

- I emailed Kylu before writing this, it's with her approval. While she technically is a bit short of 200 edits, I really don't see that as a show stopper, many of her edits are single edits that result from toolsmithing to generate content.... ++Lar: t/c 04:29, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- This is my first Oppose ever on Commons, and I am really sorry for having to do this. The 200 edits are policy not a show. No 200 edit means No nomination. That is my understanding of a policy. If the policy is wrong then fix it, do not break it. Next, no real contribution in any commons page. A few templates, and some category additions. Lots of the work here was done on Kylu page. In my opinion, that should not even be counted in the 200 required. And please check the contributions listed on the meta page, they do tell the whole story when you look more closely: fr-wiki, ja-wiki, test-wiki, incubator, mediawiki, Species, wikisource, wikibooks, wiktionary, they tell the story of the Kylu user page. Plus, I don't really get the argue that the Photo gallery is related to making Wikimedia projects a better place. Every single key pressed here is supposed to be part of that argument. The languages skills are not even a good argument for nominating her for admin-ship (es-1, fr-1, ja-1), even on Vector Graphics; she is VG1. Sorry kylu, but I can't really see any real interest from your side in this project, or even other projects. I can't even understand why are you being nominated in the first place; This is against Commons rules. --Tarawneh 22:51, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hiya Tarawneh! I'm not here to "argue you to my side" or anything, just possibly to clear up a couple misunderstandings: The user gallery was made when I was first new and didn't realize that it wasn't needed, so please feel free to discount those, though on the other hand the graphics capabilities are a bit understated. While I have (and am proficient in) Illustrator 10 and some modeling software such as Bryce and Terragen, as well as fractal generation software that outputs in vector format, I don't actually like doing it, so I rarely bother. On the other hand, I do quite a bit of artwork in bitmap, and for the most part anything that's loaded on my DeviantArt account is available upon request, though I see little point in uploading funny landscape pictures onto Commons if it's not going to be used. I'm available for custom work and photoshop coloring jobs if you'd like (please feel free to ask.) My French and Japanese accounts are mostly so I can both read and to make minor changes there. They're never going to hit admin, nor am I interested in doing so, the same with the non-Wikipedia projects. My primary interest here, really, is to try to get the templates translated into as many languages as I can: I'm sure you've seen in the news where Chinese Wikipedia is "exploding" in popularity, and I imagine this will only serve to spur on the increase in activity in non-English Wikipedias. Anywho, thanks for the input and if you have a request, feel free to drop me a line. ~Kylu (u|t) 00:25, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- I had my share of wild times with Bryce 5.0, but I heard that 6.0 way much better. OK, I will be straight. My main concern is the timing. I do not feel good about the nomination timing; especially with your other nomination on en-wiki. I do believe that your being an admin here might give you an advantage over others. Frankly I do not know you, and I can't prejudge you (well we have Bryce as a common interest) , and I believe that you did not have your Arbitration Election in mind when you where nominated here. Your nomination here, now, and against common policy, will send a the worst message ever. You just said you are only interested in translating templates. I do that all the time, I never needed admin rights for that. Hope this will not stop us from becoming friends. --Tarawneh 02:32, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, no problem! Err, lemme take this to your talkpage, because I have a killer question regarding translation of Arabic templates... ~Kylu (u|t) 02:55, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
