Namma Bengaluru (Kannada: ನಮ್ಮ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, in English "Our Bangalore") is a planned project that aims to systemically photo document the Bengaluru (Bangalore) city. Bengaluru is the capital of Karnataka state and one of the biggest cities in India. In the first two decades of the 21st century Bangalore gradually became a cosmopolitan city, housing many important institutions, government and non-government offices, corporate headquarters etc. The city is known for her welcoming approach towards non-Kannadiga (people not from Karnataka) and the city is a favourite destination for education, healthcare service and job-search. This resulted many people from outside Bengaluru/Karnataka visiting or relocating to the city on a regular basis. Being a cosmopolitan city, the culture of of city often incorporates and celebrates the culture and tradition of other states of India.
Bengaluru was founded in 1537 by Kempe Gowda I.[1] The city has a rich history and culture of its own and is known as the "Garden city of India."[2] The "Namma Bengaluru" project will attempt to photo-document the city, its culture, life in the city, and its places and important landmarks.
Objectives
[edit]If you think of Bengaluru, you can easily think of different areas such as Domlur, Halasuru, Jayanagar, Electronic City etc. Now think of any of the areas or places, what are the things that come to your mind? It might be a few buildings, some roads, some other landmarks, a crossing, a large tree, a temple, a church, or something else? Now our aim is to photo-document these so that the gallery or the category adequately represent the visual of a place.
Similarly, think of "Eid in Bengaluru" or "Dusshera in Bengaluru", what does it come to mind? Some places, some street food (which area?). We are going to photo-document these things.
Note: This needs good background study and preparation to ensure good quality, and execute the project in a systematic way. The project advisors along with the co-ordinators and the project participants are to prepare the project and photowalk blueprint and plan the photowallks.
Systematic photo-documentation
[edit]To ensure systematic photodocumentation, the participants are requested to follow these guidelines:
- The photos must be of Bengaluru, and must depict content related to the city.[1]
- File title: The file should have a clear file name such as File:<Area name><Road name or building name>. For example: use the file name: File:Domlur 2nd Stage, 2nd Main crossing.JPG or File:Domlur Club main gate.jpg
- File description: The files must have clear description in full sentences. Try to add the detailed description in both English and Kannada. Feel free to add the description in other languages such as Bengali, Tamil, Telugu etc.
- EXIF data: The file EXIF data or Meta-data carry valuable information and must be retained. Note, when you edit or beautify photos using photo editors, EXIF data are often removed.
- No watermark: Do not add any watermark, or do not put dates in the photos.
- Categorisation: The photos must be properly categorised. Photos or the media files should have the topmost category. For example, if it is a photo of Domlur Club, please add the Category Domlur Club, if that category is not available, please add the category "Domlur". You may create the category "Domlur Club" once you have more than three media files of the club.
- Templates: All the files uploaded under this project must have Template:Namma Bengaluru added onto the files. If you are unsure of doing this, please contact a project maintainer. Please give a proper file name and write the description properly so that a maintainer can easily find and cleanup those.
- Duplication: Please avoid duplication. Do not take same photo of a building or road with very little content change.
Project requirements
[edit]The project requires participation in the following categories:
- Photographers: photographers with basic/advanced photography knowledge. They will take photos of the city and will participate in photowalks.
- Project advisors: or City experts: people with good knowledge of the city and its culture. A project advisor will prepare the blueprint of the photowalks, set priority, and ensure quality of the entire project.
- Photowalk co-ordinators: Photowalk co-ordinators will take care of the photowalks or the in-person activities, prepare logistics etc.
- Wikidata editor: We need Wikidata editors with advanced editing knowledge who can feed data easily on Wikidata.
The co-ordination and logistics for the photo-walk or similar events will be taken care by CIS-A2K.
