Kolikata Little Magazine Library o Gabeshana Kendra (KLMLGK) is a privately owned library of alternative and experimental literary magazines in Kolkata, India. It was founded by Mr. Sandip Dutta on 23 June 1978 with a small number of periodicals which grew to one of the finest collection of alternative magazines in India. This page is intended as a site for discussion, and to provide information on ongoing and future projects organized as part of the collaboration between the KLMLGK and Wikimedia. If you are interested in getting involved in Wikimedia events organised at the KLMLGK, or in contributing to a Wikimedia community in West Bengal, you are welcome to contact the GLAM coordinators- Santanu Chandra or Sujay Chandra. Another GLAM coordinator Bodhisattwa Mandal left the project on August 26, 2015.
From June 2015, the Kolikata Little Magazine Library o Gabeshana Kendra (KLMLGK) launched the first ever Wikimedian-in-Residence programme in West Bengal, supported by Wikimedia India. This programme marks the start of what it is hoped will be an ongoing collaboration between the KLMLGK and Wikimedia; the Residency aims to establish a self-sustaining and long-lasting relationship between the Library and the Wikimedia community, and to encourage the growth of the Wikimedia community in West Bengal more generally. The Wikimedian-in-Residence as well the GLAM co-ordinators will act as a facilitator and catalyst over a period of several months, helping to open up access to KLMLGK collections through Wikimedia projects where appropriate, and to work with Library staff to help incorporate Wikimedia's mission of a free and open knowledge base into future initiatives.
This project aims to synchronize the sharing of resources between the Kolikata Little Magazine Library O Gabeshana Kendra and the Wikimedia community. The privately owned library comprises approximately 70,000 experimental, radical, alternative and avant-garde periodicals and little magazines. There are numerous little magazines in the library from the pre independence era. Needless to say, these journals are having a close association with the Independence movement of Bengal, rather India. In addition to these magazines, the library is also having a rare collection of handicrafts personally collected by founder Sri Sandip Dutta. Majority of these books are in Bengali, but several books and periodicals are in other languages as well, including English and Hindi. Subjects range from literature to broader disciplines of social science and humanities.
