Another SVG-PNG conversion bug Bengali font

There is another bug in the SVG to PNG conversion done by the WikiCommons software. Check File:Prokaryote cell diagram-bn.svg . I just translate in bengali language with a Font SolaimanLipi.ttf(welknown good looking Bengali font) in svg, but PNG out put shown Font with vrinda.ttf. Please refer to meta:SVG fonts for supported fonts related various scripts. It does not mention either SolaimanLipi or vrinda. Possibly Lohit Bengali is being used, unless the page is out-of-date. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 15:50, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Downloading SVGs

I'm confused. How does one take an SVG image from Commons so that it can be edited locally? I use Adobe Illustrator CS4, but copying an image takes MediaWiki's rendered PNG. How I can get the image in SVG format from Commons so that I can edit it? Thanks! --Drilnoth (talk) 14:36, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Generally, go to an image description pages such as File:Simple inverse relationship chart.svg, and right click on the name of the file just after the PNG display; in this case, you will then have the option of downloading http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/53/Simple_inverse_relationship_chart.svg . Older versions can be downloaded by right-clicking on the dates in the "File history" table near the bottom of the page... AnonMoos (talk) 16:14, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

P.S. When saving SVG files made by Adobe Illustrator, if you intend to re-upload them to wikimedia Commons, then try to use the "plain save" option (or whatever it's called exactly), because if you don't, Adobe includes a huge amount of "cruft" code which greatly bloats the size of the file, without serving any purpose for Wikimedia Commons (in fact, occasionally it can cause technical problems for SVG files here). File:Hex cap screw-ASTM A325 type 2.svg help

Hi, I just uploaded this file. As you can see the "page size" (as inkscape calls it) is much bigger than the image. Whenever I try shrink the page size to fit the image the image just gets proportionally smaller. I'm not extremely proficient with inkscape, so I'm sure I'm just missing something. That file had been edited in both Inkscape and Adobe Illustrator, and had some automatically-included code from both that was probably working at cross-purposes. I simplified it in a text editor, and made sure that the SVG tag width= and height= matched the viewBox... AnonMoos (talk) 18:42, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

File:Rajsahi Jela.svg Issue

I don't use Inkscape to edit SVG files (I only use it to test and convert SVG files), so I can't advise you on what to do in Inkscape. But SVG files are actually text files, so if you open an SVG file in a text editor and search and find the string <image then there's almost certainly a problem. If you're familiar with XML syntax (and your text editor can handle any charset issues involved), then you can use the text editor to fix basic problems in SVG files; that's what I did to File:Rajsahi Jela.svg ... Rotating an uploaded image

Hi, i just uploaded 2 images: File:Otepää church memorial.JPG, File:Estonia katastroofis mälestusmärk Vorus.JPG and they are both in landscape format instead of portrait (they looked fine on my PC), how can i rotate them here, do i need to re-upload them? I scanned and uploaded this image at super-high resolution, because the picture is considered one of the world's greatest works of art and no really good version of it was online before. As is, the image is really too large to be seen on a screen. So, questions:

1. Should I made a more tractable version and upload it? How big is a good "extra-large" size? "Life size" is: 18 1/2 in. (47 cm) high by 12 1/2 in. (31.8 cm) wide [according to the Met.Museum http://www.metmuseum.org/Works_of_Art/collection_database/islamic_art/shahnama_the_book_of_kings_of_shah_tahmasp_abu_l_qasim_firdausi/objectview.aspx?OID=140009535&collID=14&dd1=14]

2. Should I crop off the edges from the scan and rotate it slightly to be as vertical as possible?

3. Should I make "detail of" crops?

4. I nominated this version for Featured Picture -- is it too large?

Problems with SVG - text on paths

I've recently made a new version of the following graphics: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Krakow tram network.svg to look much better, show more details and have a bilingual legend. However, I cannot upload it now, because rsvg has some problems with rendering quite important pieces of this graphics. My editor is Inkscape, I also checked it on Opera browser and there it worked correctly, except giving a bit ugly font. For now, I uploaded the graphics here: http://media.zyxist.com/images/tramwaje_wikipedia2.svg. The RSVG output is: http://media.zyxist.com/images/tramwaje_wikipedia.png. And the supposed output is: http://media.zyxist.com/images/tramwaje_wikipedia_supposed.png. The problems:

1. Route numbers - if there are two red numbers on a link separated with a comma, RSVG omits this comma. Furthermore, the number "1" is drawn higher than other numbers.
2. Text - all the texts on curved paths are not displayed.
3. Italic fonts - some texts (mostly stop names) use italic fonts while they shouldn't.

I would like someone to help me improving the file so that it could be rendered as it is supposed to look also on Wikimedia. --Zyxist (talk) 07:13, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
