Panorama software

Anyone know of any panorama software like PTGui Pro 8.0.2 (Trial version however)? I've tried Hugin, Panorama Maker 4, Photoshop CS3 (Photomerge) and Panorama Factory which really have failed to work giving me blurred pano's which PTGui Pro gave me a very good pano (with the only issue is with it adding the software's site all over it.) but I just don't have a spare $300 AUD. That sounds like an odd kind of failure mode: I've had panoramas break in all sorts of ways, but never "blurred". Or do you mean the effect when the images don't align correctly, so that mismatched parts of the images get blended together in the final output?

If so (and given that it's worked in one program at least, so that the images themselves aren't bad), the problem is most likely bogus or insufficient control points. Try going over them manually, check for any obvious mismatches and add some more points if there aren't enough. In hugin at least, after running the optimizer you can open the control point list window and look for points with abnormally high distances; they may not all be wrong, but they indicate where the problem spots are. Also, if your lens suffers from significant distortion, remember to let the optimizer correct for it: it may be best to optimize just the positions first, and then run a second optimization pass with more parameters checked. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 22:41, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
