The following is a quick checklist to getting started with GLAM on the Commons.

1. Identify the material you want to share (upload).
   1. How is the material organized? Is it a collection?
   2. Is it available online? If so, it can be migrated by a program from your webpage to the Commons. If it isn't available online, but is in digital format, such as on a CD, you may upload the CD, and a program can migrate the data from the CD to the Commons.
   3. Is the material in a compatible format? The Commons currently accepts images, videos, audio, and PDFs. We don't have a place for 3D models.
   4. Is the material of sufficient quality?
   5. Is the material properly described? Does it have metadata? (This will allow programs to automatically extract relevant information).
   6. How much material is there? 500 images? 1000 images? 10,000 images? 40,000 images and 10 videos?
   7. How will the material be organized?
   8. Can the material be made available under a free license such as Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike or Creative Commons Attribution? Is it in the public domain? Licenses which do not permit commercial use cannot be used on the Commons.
   9. How do you want the metadata to be presented on the file page?
2. Get in touch with someone from GLAM on Wikipedia. Go to w:Wikipedia:GLAM/Connect. Leave a message on a user's talk page, or send them an email.
   1. Identify which institution you are with (or yourself if it is a private collection), what you want to upload (be specific, provide URLs to the collections), how large the upload is, and the license it can be uploaded with.
   2. Who will do the upload? Do you have an available developer (or maybe an intern or volunteer)?
3. Once the software for uploading is written and tested, begin the upload. After the upload, the Wikipedia community will make use of the images in various articles, report which files have broken/incorrect descriptions, and restore some of the images.
