The subject of FOP is far too complex for speedy action.

  • Here is a map of the range of complexities:{{Map-FOP-Europe}}. Even this map simplifies -- in some countries a public interior includes places where admission is charged, others do not.
  • Is the subject de minimis?
  • When did the creator of the work die?
  • Is the building finished? --I don't agree that unfinished architecture has no copyright, but many of our colleagues are using that assumption to keep images of construction.
  • Do we really understand the FOP rules in this country -- several interesting debates on this recently.
  • In the USA: (for certain dates of creation)
    • Is there a copyright notice on the sculpture?
    • Was the copyright renewed?
  • And so forth.

Delete Speedy deletion is for obvious cases only. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 16:15, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Delete - I agree that FoP issues are not well suited to speedy deletion. There are too many issues involved which are open to discussion even among established users, and even if admins do make the standard checks before deletion, mistakes are still likely, and I don't think the benefits outweigh that risk. Many users already voluntarily go through deletion requests to deal with FoP issus as it is, and I think this should be standard practice. CT Cooper · talk 11:02, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Delete I agree with Jameslwoodward as regular DRs are to be prefered in FOP cases:
  • We invite a wider community to research a specific case and to save an image (in case of a speedy deletion just the uploader gets notified but other editors who aren't admins are usually less inclined to watch the speedy categories),
  • we have more time (in many cases there is no rush, this is particularly true if keeping the image at Commons is legally possible but possibly unwanted per COM:L if just commercial reuse is prohibited),
  • it allows us to sort FOP cases under Category:Undeletion requests which permits us to restore them as soon as the depicted object becomes PD,
  • it allows us to restore FOP cases more easily if the FOP situation in a country changes or gets clarified, and
  • it allows us to use mass deletion requests for cases that are related.
