Images of LCT8

Following requests for input (with farily modest results) at The Village Pump, the Helpdesk and licensing talk page, I am nominating the following images for deletion. These are part of a series of 31 images uploaded by User:Medcroft and added to the gallery of Mark 8 Landing Craft Tank. He has marked himself as the author and source of all of them (I think). However I have my doubts. Aside from the fact that the images span a twenty-year period, several of them seem to have been taken directly from the web. From dealings with him on Wikipedia I’m aware that Medcroft actually served on two of these craft in the seventies, so I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the colour ones are his, but several others seem to have come from this website in particular.

are all images found on the various pages of [1]. They exactly match the image sizes (in pixels) of those images and look to me like exact copies. Most of them are also attributed to different individuals. File L4128 had also previously been uploaded onto Wiki with the source details marked as unknown (it was therefore deleted).

are also on the same site, but are slightly smaller sizes on wikicommons. I suspect though that most of them have been cropped a little (on the above website they all have borders or are at angles). Given the similarity in the images (scratches, exposure etc…) I suspect they are just cropped versions.

is on this site where it appears with a copyright. I’m worried that on the commons version there appears to have been photoshopping in the top right corner (notice the horizontal line next to the black dot).

Another user kindly checked the age of the websites for me at here. I can only say I have known about the landing craft web site since before these images were uploaded, and you can note from the bottom of the main page and the forum that the site has been running since 2008. I have asked Medcroft about the matter on his user page but haven’t received a reply. So, here I am. Ranger Steve (talk) 17:42, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Delete I didn't check them all, but it seems pretty clear that these images are identical to those on the cited site. While that does not prove that Medcroft is not the author, it's enough of a question so that unless he or she explains promptly, I would delete them. I should add that it's very difficult to get perfect quarter bow shots of ships underway like these -- they look to me like official photos, although I did check Jane's and the other usual suspects for UK military vessels and didn't find the first photo of Audemer. . . . .
