Not own work as claimed, all need permission

Dear Gbawden
You have suggested the possible deletion of some Toivo Kärki’s album covers and other pictures. I’ll give some arguments why I disagree.
I am a son of the well-known Finnish composer Toivo Kärki (1915-1992). As for the national significance of Toivo Kärki you may check the Wikipedia article on him (I did not write this). His music production is very large, more than 1600 recorded compositions. Most of them can be listened in the streaming services.
I own all of my father’s musical property - morally, legally and physically. After his death I have produced several albums of his previously unheard compositions. On some of these albums I have written Wikipedia articles, which include album covers and some attached texts, which I also wrote. As I said, I have the rights to all this material.
I seriously wish that the deletion of these pictures does not take place.
Yours sincerely
Xylita

@Xylita: I'm not sure why nobody has followed up on this yet (probably just lack of time: everyone here is a volunteer, and we're perennially understaffed in this area). In any case, for the situation you describe we use the process described at: Commons:Volunteer Response Team. You will need to provide various evidence that you really are legally able to license the relevant files, and the VRT team will guide you on what is needed.
Before contacting VRT though, you may want to go through these files and consider them from a copyright perspective. For example, the album covers... Did your father design the covers himself? I don't mean in the sense "Did he control the process?", but in the sense "Did he sit down with Photoshop and do the work himself?". Did he take the photographs himself, or did a friend or hired photographer operate the actual camera? Was any material from a third party used? What are the contracts for any third-party effort or resources used? In copyright, the one doing the creative work generally owns the copyright unless a contract specifically assigns all or part of it to someone else. For record covers it will often be the case that a graphical artist creates it, but then assigns the copyright to the record company (one of the services record companies provide to recording artists like your father). It is not at all uncommon for an artist whose music is on a record to not actually own the rights to the graphical design of the cover. You will need to clear up all such aspects (authorship of each component, contracts in place, etc.).
Fo example, in File:Karjalan_lapsia_2021.jpg, the photograph was most likely taken by a photographer. Who? What contract were they under, what rights did it assign, and to whom? The cover design also contains several decorative elements, as well as the overall cover design itself. Who designed this cover, what contract were they under, etc.? File:Karjalan lapsia 2021 b.jpg contains several thumbnail portraits. Who took these photos? How are they licensed? These kinds of issues apply to all or nearly all the files listed above. --Xover (talk) 21:32, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
