Anyways agree I've seen this all the uploader is doing is going onto the Thai Wiki and inserting them in to lines like this Joe Blogs (123) (German:xyz). So I agree wiki mark up would be better.   • Dear All, I am the uploader. These pictures are the text scripts of Northern Thai Language (Lanna Language: spoken by >10 million people in Thailand Burma Laos and Southern China). There is no Font or Window Support characters for this particular language. So, I cannot type any words directly into the line in Wikipedia pages or do it in Wiki mark up. Could you suggest me how to solve this problem? As I am a new user, it would be kindness for your suggestion. Thank you. --Photon34 (talk) 21:30, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    How did you create these files? Which font/tools did you use? Does Unicode contain symbols for this language? If free-licensed fonts are available, it will be good idea to add them to Universal Language Selector. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:01, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I created these files in Paint' using LN Tilok font by Thai Keyboard. (The characters are different from Thai's. We can type using Thai keyboard but we can see the meaningless words.   • According to w:en:Tai Tham alphabet, Unicode has space for Lanna symbols, so font which replace Thai ones with Lanna is incorrect. I think will be good idea if you will contact WebFonts to include support for Lanna symbols if it's not included already. Then you will need to contact Universal Language Selector developers to include required font(s) and add input method which will convert Thai symbols to Lanna. This will be best way to follow, especially if you think about Lanna edition of WMF projects, including Wikipedia. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 00:55, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Could you please try fonts and keyboard layout mentioned in links in w:en:Tai Tham alphabet? Even if font is not freely-licensed it could be used in articles. You could add information about installation in help pages. By the word, Windows has GUI for keyboard layout editing, X11 (used in Linux) keyboard layouts are just text files. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:47, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sure. To be honest, I have tried as you suggested. But the big problem that I've found is the "differences" between the Tai Tham and Lanna alphabets. Most of characters in Lanna Tham alphabet (used in the North of Thailand) are different from the Tai Tham's (used in China). The language is spoken by people in the large region, however, there are some differences in LANNA Tham (used by >6 million people in the North of Thailand), LAO Tham (used in Northeast of Thailand and Laos) and TAI Tham (in China and Burma)in many many cases, especially, the literatures e.g. shape and/or position of the letters in one word. The Font LN tilok was created for Lanna Tham only and we need to apply the Thai Keyboard only. Any inquiries are welcomed. P.S. If we can do like your suggestion on some other days, I guess it is possible to have Lanna version of wikipedia in the future.--Photon34 (talk) 18:33, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • You could find the previous discussion here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Northern_Thai. By the way, the Lanna language in the north of Thailand has been, in fact, risen up few years ago (after the abandon and centralisation by the Siamese Government during the 19th-20th centuries). So, we can see the Lanna language in the name of Schools, Universities, Temples, other official places, etc. It is a living language. Lanna Tham alphabets are unique and different from the other Thams (Tai Tham, Lao Tham). And I hope we will have the unicode for this language in the future.--Photon34 (talk) 20:59, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
