Hi Ellin Beltz. Is it possible to have some additional informations concerning this deletion request? I know that picture from a 1988 computer games aren't out of copyright but those picture were not taken from the game. Those are shemes I made myself to illustrate some games mechanisms. Thanks in advance, Hipo.dingo (talk) 12:17, 14 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi please read about Derivative Works at COM:DW. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:35, 14 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ellin Beltz: Thanks for your answer. After reading COM:DW, I fail to see how File:Quake preprocesseur (fr).png can be considered as a derivative work since it does not represent anything from the game (Quake) but only use random shape to show how the game engine work. For the 2 maps (File:Carte phlan.png, File:Carte d'Erathia.png), I used the category Category:Maps of video game locations as an example of what is usually allowed on Commons. I don’t understand either why they are considered as derivative works since those maps aren’t displayed in their respective games and are only personal representations of the games worlds. For the remaining files, I used Category:Video game head-up displays as an example. I understand why they might be derivative works since they represent some games screen. However, they do not use any material from the game outside of some small quotation that are limited in size (according to Commons:Derivative works#Text). I support the point of view of Hipo.dingo. There are categories dedicated to this kind of diagrams. FR (talk) 09:50, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It would help a lot if the descriptions made this clear that you drew without copying. The way they are written now it sounds like the files were copied from the game/s. We get quite a few uploads which are directly copied from games yet claimed as own work in all good faith. Ellin Beltz (talk) 20:14, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. For your information, I updated the descriptions of all of those pictures to make it clear that they weren't directly copied from the games but are diagrams designed to show the functionalities of the interface. To avoid any misinterpretation, I also added an English description and updated the categories. I will make sure to do this from the start the next time I upload a picture. Kept: per discussion. --Jcb (talk) 15:06, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
