- Keep I have added a De minimis tag to File:Robben Island Tour 10.jpg as the display is not clearly visible and not the main focus of the photograph. HelenOnline 08:10, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
- Keep No panorama right does not mean that everything needs to be deleted. The proposal for deletion at least needs to say specifically what items are likely to be copyright, e.g. show that they are likely to have been created recently enough and are likely to be new, creative work. Also there is this: {{PD-South-Africa-exempt}}{{PD-SAGov}} – Kaihsu Tai (talk) 16:25, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
- Info Note that the South African Prisons Service has been in existence under that name since 1959, other names before that (Prisons Department) and after that (now Department of Correctional Services). Its badge (which is painted on the Robben Island entrance gate) is not new, i.e. it was not changed after 1994 like many other government symbols were. The prison services took control of the island on 1 April 1961, around when the gate would have been painted with the prison services badge. The island's lily emblem also painted on the gate at the same time is older than that, and not particularly original. HelenOnline 08:30, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- While there is no FOP...
- These show the entrance as a whole; while the sign is there it does not necessarily cause the photo to be a derivative work. Might be a closer call, but I don't think the photo is focused primarily on the sign but rather the whole entrance. That does make a difference, especially in U.S. copyright law, which is the only real concern here anyways, and that is an pretty faint concern in the first place (see below). Keep on these.
- These depend on the copyright of the emblems on the sign. The design emblem itself was registered with their heraldry office on April 14, 1960, so it's at least as old as that (search for "PRISONS DEPARTMENT" on the Bureau of Heraldry link on this page). It sounds per above as though it was likely painted there in the early 1960s, which means it is public domain in South Africa today, which means these photos are fine in South Africa. The only issue today would be U.S. copyright status, and that is somewhat cloudy, as these are government works. Additionally the photos really are not even focusing on the artwork specifically, but the sign as a whole, and the slogan is probably the most interesting part from a modern perspective. I think this is going too far as a reason for deletion, given the nature of this particular work, so I'd lean to Keep on these. I can't think of a realistic use of these photos which would be judged a copyright violation.
- The photo which is the main subject of these dates from the 1850s or 1860s, so I don't think it has copyright anymore, and so these photos I think are OK. Keep I can see some argument on the logo of the museum, since that does appear to be intentionally included, but I would still not delete on that account. It's not focusing on the logo.
- General photo of the museum grounds, which should fine. The photo in back is almost certainly out of copyright everywhere as well. Keep
- These are photos of more modern works, so Delete I think:
- File:Robben Island museum 1.jpg
- File:Robben Island Tour 17.jpg
- File:Robben Island Tour 18.jpg (depends on the copyright of the depicted photos, but most likely still copyrighted in U.S.)
- File:Robben Island Tour 6.jpg
