Files in Category:Joe Loe
[edit]German-American painter and graphic designer Joel Löwenstein, also known as Joe Loe or Joseph Loe, emigrated to the US in 1936, was naturalized and died there in 1964. So while any US works of his might or might not be in the public domain in the US depending on the circumstances, these works are all from his time in Germany, where they are still protected by copyright until the end of 2034. So the files should be deleted. They can be restored in 2035; any US copyrights for them should have expired by then as well.

- Dear Rosenzweig. Thank you for your work. If so, we should write articles in English and German to inform everyone about the artist. Do you want to help with sources? Best regards, Bernd Schwabe in Hannover (talk) 08:25, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- P.S.: And we should held an example of the signature of Löwenstein to inform the people. Bernd Schwabe in Hannover (talk) 08:28, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Bernd Schwabe in Hannover: The sources I found are all at Wikidata: d:Q116212211. Wikipedia would probably classify most of those as "original research" :-) ... One freely accessible signature by him (as "Joseph Loe") is here, though I've never seen that on artwork. I've extracted the signature from one of his works as File:Joe Loe signature.jpg. --Rosenzweig τ 08:48, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Rosenzweig: . I am not convinced that we mean the same artist. I now tried to begin an article in German about Josef Löwenstein to show his birthdate 1883. At wikidata there is 1945 dated paper which shows the named man had been born about 1888.
- What do you think? Do you like to help to expand the German article about Loewenstein (or to make an English one)? Sincerely, Bernd Schwabe in Hannover (talk) 14:47, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think the 1883 year is correct. The Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon has it too, and apparently it originally comes from this 1992 book. Multiple official German and US records show the man was born on July 1, 1887 (as reflected at Wikidata). You can find and access them with Ancestry (which is included in en:Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library, which you should be able to use). I'll take a look at the German article. --Rosenzweig τ 15:11, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Rosenzweig: . There are more than just one or two Josef Löwenstein from that time; have a look for example. Sincerely; Bernd Schwabe in Hannover (talk) 15:00, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- His birth name wasn't Josef, it was Joel. And unlike the chemist Josef Löwenstein born in Warsaw in 1885, the Joel Löwenstein born in 1887 was a painter, a commercial artist, born in Mosbach, and "also known as Joe Loe". I suggest we continue this discussion at de:Diskussion:Josef Löwenstein, where I've provided images of the documents in question. --Rosenzweig τ 16:30, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
