- Query. I was notified of this discussion by the nominator, being the uploader of two of them (I hadn't realised they were temporary and thus fall foul of FOP), but my only interest was infact due to what was in the background. Specifically I cropped this and this, two images of a bus. Obviously the donor images cannot be kept on Commons, but I am wondering whether the crops can be re-uploaded at their cropped size, as they do show a type/livery combination that is not that easy to find on Commons compatible licenses, due to the massive recentism issues of digital photography etc. Is the CC licence used by the original Flickr photographer invalid for all types of re-use, even if it doesn't include the copyrightable portions (ie the cows)? - I actually have no idea. If the photo had been cropped in the first place before it was published on Flickr, I'm sure it would be fine. The image that you'd derive from it by cropping it afterwards would not be a derived work of the original sculpture, but it would still be a derived work of a photo of dubious legal status. ghouston (talk) 08:36, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
