This file was originally uploaded in 2008 as {{PD-textlogo}}, but has been updated twice since then. The original version of the logo is just a simple wordmark, so it seems fine as originally licensed. The two subsequent versions uploaded in 2017 and 2018, however, contain an additional element that might not be simple enough to be below COM:TOO#Japan to still be PD-textlogo. Even if the consensus is that they are, these two versions might’ve been better off uploaded as a separate file or files per COM:OVERWRITE since the adding of the additional element is probably a significant enough of a difference to not be considered a minor change. — Marchjuly (talk) 16:25, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Keep in general, but split the uploads. According to Yamaha, the tuning fork mark has been around since 1916 [1] and apart from the circles having been added, it has not changed its design. So I think if there was any "artistic appearance" as required for copyright in Japan, it would also have been a corporate copyright. This expires 50 years after creation, so the combined logo should be ok. Anyhow, we should split off the various revisions to have separate files for each type of logo. • Thanks for finding that info De728631. If splitting the file is an option, then that seems fine. Should the 2017 and 2018 each be split off into separate files or should they be split off together into a single file? Also, maybe {{PD-Japan}} would be a better license to use for the new file(s) since it appears to be age not simplicity of design which is the primary determinant of PD status for the tuning fork versions. — Marchjuly (talk) 20:17, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • I think we should have three individual files because there are actually two versions of the tuning fork logo, and people should have the opportunity to select any version with or without graphics. Not sure though if a change to PD-Japan is really needed. De728631 (talk) 20:29, 23 July 2018 (UTC)r[reply]
  •  Comment: Whatever is decided here probably also applies to File:Yamaha Motor logo.svg, which has undergone a similar development this year. —capmo (talk) 20:00, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep as three individual files per De728631.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 07:19, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep as three files per De728631 Carl Lindberg (talk) 13:51, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: Kept as File:Yamaha logo text.svg, File:Yamaha logo dark.svg, File:Yamaha logo.svg per discussion above. (I made a few mistakes in the process, which I believe I have fixed. If any issue remains, please talk to me.). --whym (talk) 14:31, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
