If the author is unknown, how can we know that he died > 70 years ago? We need more information about the drawing. When was it published? Where was it published? etc. El Grafo (talk) 09:42, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
The image was taken from a book (História geral do Brazil, Vol. 2) written by Francisco Adolfo de Varnhagen, Viscount of Porto Seguro, who died in 1878 (135 YEARS AGO)!!! You can see the book here: http://www.brasiliana.usp.br/bbd/handle/1918/01819220#page/1/mode/1up Picture Master (talk) 01:06, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Relax, there's no need to yell here. Your link doesn't work for me at the moment, but I managed to find another copy at Google Books. I've updated the information at the file description page and changed the license template to {{PD-anon-1923}}. That's still not perfect, since according to Commons:Copyright_rules_by_territory#Brazil, Brazil doesn't have a rule for anonymous works. But I think that we can safely assume that whoever created the artwork died >70 years ago, which makes it free in Brazil as well. I think it's safe to Keep the file now. —El Grafo (talk) 11:28, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
