Recoloured modified image. Original image has much darker colours for the woman and the woman is not a monster with two left arms. Denniss (talk) 05:19, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment Image is currently in use in Wikimedia projects in 9 languages, in some Wikipedias in multiple pages. Is this an image of an an actual painting that exists (with the two left hands etc), or some sort of internet prank? -- Infrogmation (talk) 05:38, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • As I've already noted at COM:AN and User talk:Mike Rosoft: this image was scanned directly from a reputable book of artwork and was not modified except to adjust levels and a nonlinear filter to mitigate printing artifacts. This is exactly how it appears in the book. There are other differences besides the arm (e.g. examine the dress around the neck, it's different); it is, in all likelihood, a different copy of the original painting. It's common for an artist (or their studio, or later artists copying them) to produce two or more different copies of a single work. I should not have requested universal replacement of the old image by the new image; I did not notice until now that it is a different copy. Dcoetzee (talk) 05:50, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
