This file was initially tagged by Jeff G. as Dw no source since (dw no source since). We should retain a record of this discussion to file into our COM:TOO US casebook and for DR categorization purposes. King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 00:06, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- Delete. See COM:VPC#RE/MAX: starting life in another logo variant:. The source given is copyrighted by RE/MAX or learninglibrary.com. The USCO wrote that the logo is COM:DW of existing work still copyrighted, thus we can't accept it without permission per COM:L. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 10:35, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- Delete, as Jeff G. explained it's a DW of a copyrighted work. Even though the DW doesn't exceed the threshold of originality (similar to making a photocopy), the underlying source is still copyrighted. -M.nelson (talk) 18:45, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- Link to the original discussion. My concern was not that this is a derivative work of a copyrighted work, as it's totally possible to strip down a work to something minimalist (compare File:Mickey Mouse head and ears.svg). My concern was that the uploader of the RE/MAX logo did not understand what the Copyright Office's letter meant; given the confusing nature of the document, I think I understand how it would be confusing. But here, I guess I should determine whether this stripped-down variant would be original if it were not a derivative work of previous 2D designs. I think the shapes and shading just barely push it over the edge. A thin copyright that's only enforceable against virtually identical copies, to be sure, but a valid one nonetheless. Delete, but I guess we can undelete this when the originals expire 200 years from now. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 16:53, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
Deleted: THe USCO refused registration of this logo on the grounds that it was too similar from the previous copyrighted logo from which it is derived. Therefore this logo and this image are derivative of the previous logo. . Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 15:27, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
