I was doubtful when I looked at the URL for this image. Government of Canada images, in my experience, are ALWAYS non-commercial. The source URL for this image was 404. But the page was archived on the wayback machine, many times, the earliest being 2013... https://web.archive.org/web/20130312015025/http://www.ec.gc.ca/eau-water/default.asp?lang=en&n=5EA1D86E-1 There is no creative commons on that page. The link to the 2013 important notices page clearly says the image has been released for non-commercial use.
I uploaded some dozens of images from Canadian Government sites, in late 2004 and early 2005, before the WMF deprecated the use of images licensed as non-commercial. So, images were non-commercial in 2005. They were non-commercial in 2013.
I very strongly suspect they were non-commercial in 2010, when this image was uploaded...
So, how did User:GRID-Arendal come to apply a CC licesne to this image? The most charitable guess would be wishful thinking... Geo Swan (talk) 02:44, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Delete for incompatible license. I just looked at File:Suppdoc1l.jpg which was sourced to a Canadian government website. The archive.org link is https://web.archive.org/web/20110103033351/http://gsc.nrcan.gc.ca/permafrost/suppdoc_e.php (archived in 2011). Following its important notices link led to https://web.archive.org/web/20110113123823/http://www.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/com/notiavis-eng.php (archived in 2011) which does not allow commercial copies.
