This really isn't too simple for copyright. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:27, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- Comment I'd agree that it's not at all too simple to copyright, but what is Malaysian policy toward the use of photographs of logos of divisions, districts (daerah), etc.? I'm reading Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Malaysia: "Copyright subsists in every work which is eligible for copyright and which is made by or under the direction or control of the Government and such Government organizations or international bodies as the Minister may by order prescribe." I'm guessing this logo is copyrighted, but I don't know what that would mean, practically. I certainly wouldn't think they'd want anyone to print it out and use it commercially, but neither would a country that allows photos of currency want someone to print out a photo of currency such as File:1 United States dollar banknotes (348734).jpg and try to pass it off as genuine currency (though that's a $1 bill, so let's say they wouldn't want someone to print out 1,000 of them, etc.), which would be stupid though much more likely. I'll be interested to hear an answer on this from an expert. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:32, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- I would put the question forward to https://mukah.sarawak.gov.my/page-0-217-375-Logo-Bahagian-Mukah.html Lotje (talk) 07:49, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- I thought perhaps someone here would know what Malaysian policy was. If no-one does, it would indeed be good for someone to write and ask, preferably a Malaysian citizen, but let's just say that we shouldn't assume Malaysian government officials or bureaucrats will pay attention to such a query. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:04, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- My first thought was to contact someone on the Malasian wikipedia. However it is difficult to know who one can trust there. How about contacting a Wikimedia m:Steward who may have a better idea about trusted users in Malasia? Just a thought. Ottawahitech (talk) 17:12, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
- I don't know if Stewards are likely to be more reliable on Malaysian government policy toward use of photos of division/daerah logos than other users, but posting a query on the Village pump, whatever it's called ["Kedai kopi", the coffee shop, so Malaysian!], at Malay Wikipedia is a good idea. Since I speak Malay (though my writing was at the 6th-grade level of my schooling there and is rusty), I'll try my hand at this. I'll have to look up the word for "copyright", for example, because in my daily life, I don't remember needing to use related words other than "cap" (=brand), "syarikat" (corporation) or "sendirian berhad" (=ltd./inc.). -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:23, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
- Done, to the best of my ability. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:38, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

- @Ikan Kekek: Good idea!, but no one answered yet, I think? Since the Malasian wikipedia does not make pageview statistics available, it is hard to determine how many editors visit this coffee-shop
- By the way, how did you find the coffeeshop - I don't see it on the navigation bar there? Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 19:35, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
- If you go to the Main Page of ms.wikipedia, you can see "Kedai Kopi" on the left side. That's "Coffee Shop", and since I speak Malay and know how much it's a part of Malaysian culture to hang out in coffee shops, I knew that was almost definitely the equivalent of the Village Pump. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:48, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
- I'll talk to the Malaysian Wikimedians about it to ask either any of us knew about that. Please give us some times to do some research about it. Thank you. WAqil (talk) 03:15, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- I wouldn't be surprised if the concept doesn't exist at all in Malaysia. It is a first world concept which the community has decided should apply globally despite scant evidence that it exists in most countries. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:46, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Absolutely. Terima kasih banyak, WAqil. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:26, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- I had a reply to my question from User:SNN95 at ms.wikipedia, which you can see in the thread I linked above. I will summarize it for you: He says that it's OK to use the logo although it's copyrighted by the Malaysian government, and the problem is that because it's copyrighted, it's not OK to upload to Commons due to U.S. copyright law governing Commons, since the servers are in the U.S. Would that be true if it is in fact fine with the Malaysian government for the logo to be used? -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:39, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- WAqil, any news? -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:42, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- In reference of the usage of Malaysia Federation emblem and names, the following act should be referred.
- For Sarawak, where Mukah is under it's jurisdiction, the Sarawak Ordinance shall be referred.
- Cap. 53 - State Anthem and Emblems Ordinance, 2002 . [3]
- Since online publication and wiki is not included in the Ordinance, reproduction for profit and non-profit aside from newspaper should be assumed as not permitted without written permission from the State Secretary.Jentayu (talk) 09:48, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

- Delete Fairly complex design that would be above the threshold of originality in most countries. Unsure about COM:TOO Malaysia specifically. -M.nelson (talk) 19:50, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
Deleted Per nomination and discussion. On Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Malaysia it is stated that the texts of laws, judicial opinions, and government reports are always free from copyright. Images are not listed in this statement. In addition this image is above TOO as per M.nelson. The discussion on Malay Wikipedia did not lead to a final conclusion to keep the image, thank you all for your efforts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ellywa (talk • contribs) 11:03, 4.
