No indication that the author "J.H. Boussuge" would have died before 1948. Abzeronow (talk) 14:53, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's not "J.H.", it's "Jh", an abbreviation for "Joseph", using the first letter and the last letter of this name. -- Asclepias (talk) 01:47, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the correction. Would need a death date for Joseph Boussuge if this was first published in France as it's not old enough for PD-old-assumed yet. Abzeronow (talk) 17:06, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Boussuge lived and conducted his business in Morocco. Based on his published works, he was professionally active between the early 1900s and the mid-1910s. Nothing seems to be known of him after that. -- Asclepias (talk) 19:02, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but if he was 20 in 1900, he could have lived to be 68 in 1948. 1908 seems to be date of postcard so it could age into {{PD-old-assumed}} in 2029. Abzeronow (talk) 20:18, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Article 51 of the Moroccan dahir of 1970 protected original photographs for 50 years from their creation. The law enacted in 2000 extended the protection to 70 years after the death of the author, but its article 69 specifies that this extension applies only to works that were still protected under the previous legislation. This extension does not apply to works that were already in the public domain. Even assuming that a 1908 photograph had ever been copyrighted in the first place, it was in the public domain a long time before the year 2000 and it remains in the public domain. This 1908 postcard is in the public domain. The difficulty with the file is not with the original postcard, it is with the fact that the uploader claims a copyright on his copy to Commons, which is contrary to the policies of Commons, and with the fact that the reproduction of the postcard was not even made by the uploader but it is a copy of a reproduction found on Ebay which shows the curved postcard and has some three-dimensional aspect. -- Asclepias (talk) 00:40, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, if closing admin thinks Morocco is the country of origin, I'll agree with decision to keep. {{PD-Morocco}} can be put if that applies and the other stuff can be fixed too. Abzeronow (talk) 01:58, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The city of the photographer and publisher is printed on the postcard: "Jh Boussuge, à Casablanca". -- Asclepias (talk) 02:28, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: as per Asclepias above. --Yann (talk) 11:15, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
