- Delete Painting by Ernest L. Blumenschein (1874-1960) 1950s painting(date on painting looks like 1958 or 1959). Undelete in 2055 (edit: er...2024 based on Smithsonian info). Abzeronow (talk) 19:34, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info, how did you identify this and the other painting? FunkMonk (talk) 20:28, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- On this painting, trial & error with Google. "fort orleans indian bride return" had its 3rd result that matched the "E.L" first initals that are on the painting on the bottom left corner. On the other one, artist was named below licensing section. (Someone else edited now so description is correct) Abzeronow (talk) 20:50, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- Comment Smithsonian says "circa 1917-1928". If they're correct, 1927 is my guess then (it looked more like 195X to me) (although that third digit doesn't quite look like a 2). https://www.si.edu/object/siris_ari_362750 Abzeronow (talk) 21:00, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- This book dates it from 1923-1924. On the description page [1], it was added that the source of the file is a Smithsonian webpage. I don't think that's correct. The original uploader's logs at en.wikipedia show that he uploaded on 22 September 2007 several photos of paintings in the Missouri State Capitol and their EXIF show that they were taken with the same camera as other photos taken by this user. It seems reasonable to conclude that he took the photos. -- Asclepias (talk) 23:17, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree that the original uploader took the photos. I added that Smithsonian url in the source category for pertinent info on the painting. I'll edit again so it's clear that we don't doubt the original uploader took the photo. Abzeronow (talk) 16:47, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- Ok, then I moved that url out of the source field and into the description field. -- Asclepias (talk) 15:33, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

- Keep. As PD-US-no notice. (The PD-old tag from upload was obviously wrong. It is changed now.) -- Asclepias (talk) 15:33, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
- How do we know there was no copyright notice? There is some tiny text in the lower left of the image, who knows what it says... FunkMonk (talk) 16:45, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
- It is the signature of the artist and the year. This is similar to other murals in the same location, with the signature and year in one corner of the mural, for example File:Nuderscher The Artery of Trade 1922.jpg, "Frank Nuderscher 1922". In the case of the Fort Orleans mural, it is "E. L. Blumenschein 1924 Taos". (The Taos part is hard to see on this photo, but Blumenschein used to place it with his signature, see for example on this other painting.) -- Asclepias (talk) 12:29, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
- If that's the case, we should be able to upload a much better version of it than the one here. FunkMonk (talk) 13:34, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
