Commons:Deletion requests/Commons:Original research
This redirect (to Commons:Project scope/Evidence) was created by Lyrda (talk · contribs) likely to illustrate some interpretation of research. With all due respect to drama experts from Wikipedia, “Project scope/Evidence” doesn’t address originality of works by Commons contributors, and no relevant guideline was discussed AFAIK. Can we delete it now? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 15:27, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- I would think not, it is intended for users who don't get the difference between original research and (research for) evidence, and falsely claim that original research is allowed on Commons because they think there is no related guidance. Lyrda (talk) 15:50, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- What is this shyness for, Lyrda? I took no offence – yes, am Incnis Mrsi, a proud author of numerous pictures, most of them totally original, in several research domains. Where are valiant deletionists to probe me for the sake of WP:NOR cause on Wikimedia Commons? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 16:18, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- If we need to give definite guidance on what ways to seek evidence are acceptable, then let us give it in the policy or associated pages, not have a pointer which alludes the WP:OR policy is accepted here. I guess the policy is vague because it is hard to come up with good guidelines, and this kind of redirects do not help. --LPfi (talk) 22:14, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
Deleted: Commons:Project scope/Evidence discusses the necessary evidence and the research that might be needed in order to provide it. That has nothing to do with the question of "original research" as the phrase is used in the WP concept described at WP:NOR. Original research, in that sense, is permitted on Commons. Every image is, in a sense, original research and certainly taking images of places or buildings requires the photographer/uploader to research whether he has the right building. This is often trivial, but sometimes not. The same is true of images of people. . Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 19:06, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
