Burwell and Burwell photographs of U.S. coins

[edit]

The metadata/description page for the nominated files indicate they were created by Burwell and Burwell Photography. Some of the files' metadata/description pages also contain copyright notices. Burwell and Burwell is a private contractor that the mint uses for some of its official photographs of U.S. coinage. 17 U.S. Code § 105(a) provides that "the United States Government is not precluded from receiving and holding copyrights transferred to it by assignment, bequest, or otherwise". That is, works created for the U.S. government by contractors are not necessarily in the public domain. Therefore, the photos cannot be assumed to be in the public domain and should be deleted, even if the coins themselves are in the public domain. See also Commons:Deletion requests/File:2019 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 5oz Dollar Reverse.jpg, which sets a precedent for this deletion.  Mysterymanblue  03:06, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
