The song "Blue Suede Shoes" was written by Carl Perkins, who died in 1998. The song is still copyrighted. J Milburn (talk) 20:50, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Comment The composer's death date should not matter for US copyright. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 21:20, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- And why's that? It means that the lyrics of the song are still within copyright? J Milburn (talk) 22:12, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- I really have no idea (US copyright on music is horribly messy, not something that I want to get into), but death dates were not important in the US for works created before 1978. This seems to be the recording of a 1950's live broadcast - might very well be free. The Internet Archive certainly knows these thing better than you or me. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 23:26, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- The recording cannot be free if the lyrics aren't... You're gonna have to provide more than mere assertions. J Milburn (talk) 02:42, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

- And why's that? It means that the lyrics of the song are still within copyright? J Milburn (talk) 22:12, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Comment First of all Peter Kuiper is right that the author's death date is irrelevant for US works (and will be until at least 2018). He's also right that copyright for sound recordings pre-1972 are immensely complex. However, copyright for written works, such as the music and lyrics to this song, are not so complex; they are in the public domain if one of {{PD-1923}}, {{PD-US-no notice}}, or {{PD-US-not renewed}} applies. If none of these apply, the music and so the derivative recording is non-free. If the uploader can demonstrate that at least of these applies for the written music, that still leaves the copyright of the recording, which will depend on the state and various other information we don't have yet. Dcoetzee (talk) 04:59, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
This is a speedy, as a copyvio. The copyright to the music and lyrics by Carl Lee Perkins was renewed in 1984, registration #RE0000197314 / 1984-03-08. It is very easy to search the US Copyright Database for entries after 1978, particularly when you have distinctive title and author names. Deleted. Jim . . . . Copyright status not entirely clear. The picture is published on a webpage of the National Park Service, but it was not made by the NPS SEM (talk) 10:38, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Why do you think it was not made by the NPS? The source seems to indicate it was a National Park Service (Division of History, Office of Archeology and Historic Preservation) project and publication from 1968. The maps were done by a Harry Scott. Seems accurate to me. Keep Carl Lindberg (talk) 07:53, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I just realized that I confused something. I thought the map was from Jerome A. Greene's "Nez Perce Summer, 1877: The US Army and the Nee-Me-Poo Crisis", parts of which are also published on the NPS-pages. However, as you correctly pointed out, the map is from John Dishon McDermott's book, which was apparently written for the NPS. We have material taken from a 1969 reprint of a 1932 book published by the University of California. Both the reprint and the original have notices. However, I do not find a renewal for the 1932 work, so it appears that the 1932 copyright lapsed. The 1969 copyright therefore covers only new material, in this case only the cover design. Also, Google shows the whole book, which indicated that it believes the book is PD. Kept. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 14:21, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

- Delete: Some may argue, that Commons does not exert censorship. However, written profanity is not tolerated, so why should it be visually? Further to that, in basically all countries images of this type are classified not for common access, or even not classifiable at all. I don't mind nudity, or whatever, but blatant vulgarity of this kind well exceeds the scope of Commons - no education value, no foreseeable use, out of scope OAlexander (talk) 10:54, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
- Keep: Not a very strong keep, but it could very well serve educational value by illustrating female urination, a bodily function some people might want to know about. Even if profanity/vulgarity is not tolerated in society, it is tolerated on Commons as stated here and exemplified here or here. - To clarify, the OTRS e-mail should come from the corporation -- usually such actions come from the Corporate Secretary, in this case, David Sullivan. While Mr. Hunt may be the creator, once he has transferred the work to the organization, it is not his to license here. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 14:42, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

That is not really PD-textlogo (even Jcb admits "borderline"). Permission from copyright holder needed. Saibo (Δ∇) 18:50, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

The image provides no sources, and there is giant evidence that such flag never existed. The earliest example of this flag appeared in 2006, there never any such flag before. Also, it includes mistakes that every human, who is familiar with Abkhazian or Russian alphabet will note - a) П letter instead of Ҧ and Ъ and I instead of Ы. George, 13:02, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Kept. - heavily in use, Wikimedia Commons is not the place were we discuss if this flag is correct - Jcb (talk) 22:10, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Image has watermark (Logo from Beethoven-Haus Bonn). Sorry. I mistook the logo for a part of the image. The Logo consists of the initials of Ludwig van Beethoven, using a script font. LeastCommonAncestor (talk) 14:15, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Kept. - we have {{Watermark}} for that - Jcb (talk) 22:14, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
No evidence that the author is unknown and no evidence for the date: The image is from AFP according to source, AFP is all visible via gettyimages, http://www.gettyimages.de/detail/51397220/AFP, comparing to other photographs of the same person the photo might be way >1940, the glasses that he also wears on all other 1946 photos may be one eivdence, tha airplane in the back can be another evidence. So: Likely not unknown, the source wasnt consulted, and not old enough. Martin H. (talk) 14:30, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Keep I have not noticed that this file is from Getty Images. I changed the image to a more copyright-copliable one. Daffy123 (talk)
- Delete The replacement has a (c) on the page and on the particular image. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 14:50, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- I dont see a copyrigth notice on the image, but the replacement is from fr:Roger-Viollet (#40767-2), possibly Henri Roger-Viollet. Reasonable enquiry would require to ask that source. Grabbing images from random websites and claiming that the author d is "unknown" and that the author died 70 years ago is wrong in almost all cases and based only on the sad fact that most information about authors is not online or not known by the particular uploader. --Martin H. - Sorry, I wasn't clear -- I meant that the source page had a (C) and the large image, visible when you click on the thumbnail, also had a (C) -- there is no watermark. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 11:54, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

File RJ-45_TIA-568B_Right.png is of much better quality and doesn't use a language. So it's better to use that image Mattias.Campe (talk) 17:41, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Possible invasion of privacy (not Loughner's, but the rest of his family). In any case, I'll shortly be uploading a new version with the license plates redacted. SarekOfVulcan (talk) 20:50, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- New version uploaded, and early versions deleted. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 21:06, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Note I'm not the photographer, nor anything. I just reverted the image to its. original size. I'd say let's Keep it because a street is a public place, Karp has not been invading anyone's privacy, unless the US law is a bit awkward in this scope. I have seen a picture of the Loughner family house in USA Today, I don't think they are invading their privacy, either. Diego Grez return fire 21:13, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

- Comment The original uploader has requested speedy deletion of the image. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 14:59, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Comment The author tried to upload lower resolution version (~600x400), then (when he was reverted) he tried to revoke the free license and to nominate the picture for speedy deletion. Too bad that the uploader don't want to explain his opinion here. Maybe he could agree with hosting of the lower resolution version? I think it's reasonable to fulfill the uploader's will, because the picture is not used anywhere, and it's important not to alienate volunteers from Commons. Trycatch (talk) 19:45, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Comment Should the "redacted" photo document that Loughners are some mafiosos that use cars without license plates? Commons should contain realistic photos, not a virtual reality. Restore the original version. --ŠJů (talk) 22:07, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
