Commons:Bundesarchiv/Error reports/Corrections on Commons
The problem
We collected hundreds (or thousands?) of error reports regarding Bundesarchiv images since 2008. Nearly all reported errors (wrong identifications of persons or places, typographic mistakes, wrong filenames, etc.) were fixed in the BArch database at www.bild.bundesarchiv.de, but not here yet. Many factual errors are still present on Commons therefore.
How you can help
As of January 2012, all archive subpages still need to be checked. It's best to do this from top to bottom for each per year archive list.
- Please check every entry (starting at the top within an archive), and see if any adaption here on Commons is still needed. – If no (and corrections were already made), check the next entry. If yes, please update the file description and/or move the file here on Commons according to the corrected BArch entriy (follow the "source" link on a file's description page to view the "original", and to spot the differences).
- If you stumble upon a complicated entry (that you can't handle yourself), please copy its entry (together with a short comment explaining the specific problem) from the archive to this page. Please leave the archive itself untouched.
- After you've checked some entries, please leave a note below up to which date (the month/day section heading within an archive) a per year list is checked. This prevents double checking, and enables other users to easily continue checking.
In case you've successfully handled one of the complicated cases listed below, please simply remove its entry from this page.

Complicated cases 2009
--:bdk: 23:26, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

the original description claiming bei strengster Aufsicht von Nazipolozisten mußten die Gefangenen hier arbeiten is incorrect, what I explained in more detailed way below it. Also the title from the descrpition, stating: Volksrepublik Polen can be misleading. Volksrepublik Polen didn't exist during or before WW2 and Nazi concentration camps had nothing to do with it or with Poland at all (besides their localization on occupied polish territories). Masur (talk) 18:34, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- OK Thank you very much for your advice, but the discription you mentioned ist the original text from the agency, in this case from "Zentralbild". Mistakes in that original titles of the photos have to be assumed because the texts are historical sources! Bundesarchiv-B6 (talk) 11:25, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- So the description is wrong and it doesn't matter whether it is official and original texy from the agency or not. And it doesn't, definitely, base on historical sources, beacause there are no acknowledged historical sources claiming these facts. If something is wrong it should be corrected both here (Commons) and probably in the sources (agency). Here I can change it, but I didn't want to disrupt original captions, however if you won't do it - I'll. Regarding the agency, I can consider contacting Polish representatives in Germany (e.g. Polish embassy in Berlin or Polish Foreign Ministery) to trigger the reaction in the more official way, which happened more than once in past years. We should be aware that false claims about war crimes, especially Holocaust, in both our countries, is a law violation. Masur (talk) 19:32, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
