Discussion
- I think will be good idea to create better file names. Msc2010 dett karsai 0013 doesn't seems too descriptive. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:05, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'm open to better suggestions to create them automatically, but 'dett_karsai_0013.JPG' was the original filename and I just added msc2010. --Prolineserver (talk) 17:55, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- Just use what you have in description, like 46th Munich Security Conference 2010. Impressions of the conference hall. Existing uploads should be renamed. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:18, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- Do you really appreciate filenames like 46th Munich Security Conference 2010. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic Afghanistan and Al Saud Prince Turki Al Faisal Al Abdulaziz, Chairman of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies. or longer? I like descriptive names, but the same way I strongly dislike too long filenames since they e.g. destroy the overview when used in templates and it is annoying to work with them. In the end they should be unique, and are not a good place to store the file description again. --Prolineserver (talk) 18:14, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- Don't forget to add chinese and russian translations when renaming the files. -- smial (talk) 20:29, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- Names of persons are just fine :-) Title may be omitted :-) --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:47, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

- "Hamid Karzai and Turki bin Faisal ibn Abdul Aziz Al Saud at Munich Security Conference 2010 - dett_karsai_0013.JPG" would be great, but I think
- "Munich Security Conference 2010 - dett_karsai_0013.JPG" should do. -- User:Docu at 20:41, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- If you have a nice automatic approach to generate the first version I would prefere it, too, but I can replace the msc2010 by the full name. --Prolineserver (talk) 20:53, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- Not sure if this is really needed. (You could take the list of participants, check if each generates a match in the description and, if yes, append the full name to the file name.) -- User:Docu at 09:18, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

- Please don't tell people not to upload images [1]. -- User:Docu at 17:41, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, last year after I got the release of all photos it became a mess until Multichill and I uploaded them systematically. --Prolineserver (talk) 17:55, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- It depends how the notice is worded. Maybe some users want to upload images you don't have. Besides, for some projects, it can be an advantage if images are available earlier. If your bot checks for duplicates, it shouldn't be much of an issue. -- User:Docu at 18:02, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thats why I wrote 'please avoid' instead of don't. Last year Multichill afaik didn't check while uploading, but I'm already playing with dubechecking, /home/multichill/queries/dupes/dupes_stats.php contains the recyclable code. --Prolineserver (talk) 18:23, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- Last year Prolineserver prepared the upload and I just had to press a button. It's probably better for him to use his own bot. Keep the good images coming! Multichill (talk) 19:15, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

- In the notice, it would be good to note what will be uploaded (unless it's to illustrate an article, I doubt people will try to upload them manually before). For 150, I think duplicates shouldn't be an issue. Just add {{Duplicate}} to any. As the previous run was successful, I'd move ahead. -- User:Docu at 20:41, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- People tried :( I discovered dublicates in the test run since they added old pictures to the new ones, but I skipped their upload. --Prolineserver (talk) 20:53, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

- Can you do a test run with the amended version? -- User:Docu at 09:18, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
- You mean with file names like "Munich Security Conference 2010 - oldname"? --Prolineserver (talk) 10:26, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes. -- User:Docu at 10:34, 20 March 2010 (UTC)- As 150 images aren't that many, I suggest you upload all of them without additional testing. Just maybe two fixes to the template:
- if you use "{{de|1=" instead of "{{de|", you avoid problems if there happens to be a "=" in the text (the same for {{en|)".
- If you use "YYYY-MM-DD" as format, the date gets localized.
- When you are ready to do the following uploads, you might want to do a test upload of about 20 and then ask for feedback. -- User:Docu at 14:42, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
- Mhh, I didn't recognize your last changes of your mind and did the testrun without them. But I modified the uploadscript. --Prolineserver (talk) 09:57, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- Looks good. Ok for me. -- User:Docu at 10:33, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- Since nobody else seems to take part in the discussion anymore I'll just run it this afternoon. --Prolineserver (talk) 10:39, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah looks good, just run it. Multichill (talk) 13:32, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

It's done, so I didn't experience any problems. --Prolineserver (talk) 19:00, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- Excellent work. Even all descriptions wikilinked in two languages! Looking forward to Stockholm Jazz Festival :). BTW please check this one. -- User:Docu at 19:11, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- I corrected it. There are a lot of typos in the names, Cyrillic transcriptions varying from image to image, and typos in the html source. My script had a pile of regular expressions just to correct most of this... --Prolineserver (talk) 20:53, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- In Commons, the way descriptions are done varies a lot. In general, we are lucky if there is one. Thus, some variation there doesn't matter much. It's already hard to keep the English transcriptions consistent between Commons and WP ;) -- User:Docu at 07:27, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
