Discussion

Hello,

I know the user account is not following the bot's recommandation to have "bot" in its name but I have an explanation :) This account has been used up to today mainly to contribute on French wikipédia, and Commons is the only place where it will run bot-like operations, and it should run it just once. I could create another account for my library but I have already uploaded 274 files with this one (I know, I should have asked earlier but I had forgotten, I was so excited to run the full upload :)) and I'd like to keep everything under the same user's account. Hope that is an acceptable explanation! Symac (talk) 07:54, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How many upload are intended to be done with this run? --Krd 11:10, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Krd:  : 2523 files are to be uploaded, minus the 274 already done => ~2300. Symac (talk) 11:28, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say this task can be done without botflag. --Krd 11:31, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Krd: this is what I was thinking and that's why I started >200 files then I stopped my script when reading on Commons:Guide_to_batch_uploading#Create_new_user_for_your_upload_bot : "If you do not already have one you will need to request bot account at Commons:Bots/Requests.". From what I have read even if I don't need the botflag I need to ask there, I don't see any problem with this, especially as feedback has already been gathered on the batch upload request, but I am not a regular "bulk uploader" so I wanted to be sure. I think it's fine to upload without bot status. May be even better if somebody will notice photos and help with categorization. But upload rate should be low.
Contributions seems fine for me.

@EugeneZelenko: thanks for the feedback. Many pictures are already categorized as a colleague of mine had linked them to the corresponding wikipedia article and using wikipedia > wikidata link I have been able to fetch many categories. And I am in contact with local wikipedians, ready to enrich the descriptions and categorize the pictures, that should be nice :) As everybody seems to think I should not have opened this request I will run my script tomorrow if there is no objection before that. Approved without bot flag. --Krd 13:37, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
