Discussion

I have uploaded the first three images on the bot account. I am nearly done downloading all the metadata for every image and automatically producing page text from it. I was wondering if it would be possible to enable uploading from URL for this domain, or who I might need to talk to about that. It would probably allow me to get this done much faster than downloading each image to my computer and uploading it. BMacZero (talk) 06:17, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If there are no objections, I think task should be approved. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:07, 19 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can we see another (bigger - 30-50?) batch of test uploads with the above comments incorporated? --99of9 (talk) 07:04, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'll do that. I am in the process of getting internet at access at a new place, so I may not get to it until the weekend. BMacZero (talk) 16:41, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Still limited access to internet. Also, I have automatically mapped many of the tags to categories, and I realized that many of the images end up with categories that are redundant (ex: Category:Trout and Category:Fish on the same image), so I'm adding some code to detect that while I wait. I'm up and running, and I've uploaded a total of 40 images. @EugeneZelenko: @99of9: BMacZero (talk) 18:48, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed that the author categorization didn't happen - I'll look into that. BMacZero (talk) 18:55, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if it'll be possible to categorize by author, given that the categories for works by an author usually include the medium (e.g. "Photographs by Ansel Adams"), which isn't available in the metadata. Should I just put them in the root author category (e.g. "Ansel Adams") and rely on manual recategorization? BMacZero (talk) 19:40, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes IMO that is good enough for a bot.--99of9 (talk) 10:15, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed problem with language in Description when images taken from other language source: File:FMIB 32651 Dauphin.jpeg, File:FMIB 32653 Lamantin.jpeg. Should include description on both languages (if possible). --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:23, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have run about 10 more with the language fix (File:FMIB 32664 Baleine du Nord.jpeg) and author categories. I should also note that I added some code to make Creator pages for the authors using data from Wikidata. Checking wikidata helps me verify that the names are in a good format, so I figured I'd add this extra logic while I was at it. BMacZero (talk) 16:45, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Looks OK for me. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:02, 9 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
