Both AvicBot and myself are coming back from our hiatus, and would like to pick up where we left off. He was voluntary de-flagged before due to inactivity.

Note that fixing double-redirects is a new task for AvicBot on Commons - but he has tons of experience with those edits elsewhere.

Sorry - I have seen this request too late. But commenting now: Fixing double redirects is done by Revibot (and it could be done by every bot using pywikipedia). --Steinsplitter (talk) 17:57, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure I follow this logic. I see nothing in the bot policy that says only one bot can do a job. That seems contrary to the open and collaborative nature of what Commons and the larger Wikimedia sites stand for. If the situation were reverse, and AvicBot was the only one doing a task, I wouldn't fight anyone that wanted to run a second bot to help!

It's certainly been done before - E.g. SteinsplitterBot cleaning the sandbox despite this usually being done by Hazard-Bot. And タチコマ robot has been fixing double-redirects since 2012, before Revibot came along. AvocatoBot also overlaps this timeframe.

Besides collaboration, it also provides redundancy. AvocatoBot used to fix redirects, but just stopped in late 2013. If, for whatever reason, we have a single bot doing a task, and the bot/bot op goes AWOL, then the backlog piles up and useful work doesn't get done. Multiple bots run by multiple bot ops resolved this conflict.

As stated above, this doesn't cause bot wars, and has de facto been done by several bots at the same time, for years. I see no concerns over adding one more to the mix. sısɐuuǝɔıʌ∀ (diskuto) 20:48, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
