Why are there several pics of graffiti - As a Melbourne resident, this is just stupid to have in commons, when it is normally to represent the city, not turn people away from it. The graffiti is the last thing on people's minds in Melbourne, It is the best city to live in, in the world, or the second best.
Proposed move to "Melbourne, Australia"
[edit]- Strong oppose Melbourne in Australia is primary topic (4,000,000 inhabitants, vs next largest Melbourne, Florida has 78,000), absolutely no need to be moved to a longer name. --Elekhh (talk) 22:40, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- Support: There are many en:Melbourne (disambiguation) and there is no priority rule on Commons. --Foroa (talk) 20:42, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose London, Sydney and Amsterdam are ambiguous as well. Like those, Melbourne has a much greater population than other locations by the same name. Why have the tail wag the dog? Melburnian (talk) 09:57, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- The non disambiguation of country capitals with a large history (and many categories) such as Amsterdam, London, Rome was a historical mistake that is currently tolerated. No reason to extend that list of tolerated exceptions. --Foroa (talk) 10:28, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- No, they were not "historical mistakes", they were deliberate, sensible choices, as was this category when it was created back in 2005. "Melbourne" is the title used in numerous language versions of Wikipedia, there is no need to extend the list of untolerated exceptions.Melburnian (talk) 11:42, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

- Oppose: per arguments presented by Elekhh and Melburnian - also I personally am very against the usage of place/country - such combinations are not used locally - usually only non-residents dream up - Perth, Australia is a good example - it is Perth, Western Australia if necessary SatuSuro (talk) 11:51, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose The Australian city is clear primary topic. Yes, we don't have that written down on Commons, but we should for the same reason as on Wikipedia - we better serve our audience (categorisation is about them, not contributors). See COM:VP#Disambiguation of categories for fuller logic. Also if this category is moved it should be to Melbourne, Victoria not Australia.--Nilfanion (talk) 09:02, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose. Creating a disambiguation page would create an unnecessary hurdle for visitors and editors trying to find material about the Australian city. - Eureka Lott 21:04, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
