Hi. Help improve the name of "Category:Maps of regions in Italy by province" by attending the new-name proposal: Locator maps of regional divisions into provinces in Italy. Thankz, Orrlingtalk 08:22, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Other reason give by Orrling : As much as this category is even necessary, the current title is odd; its format suggests that this is a meta-cat – which it apparently isn't, as the present content seems to consist fully of individual diagrams of the regioni with varying figures of provincial subdivision, and I therefore think it might be wise to eliminate the "by province" in favour of a more reflective title. Alternatively, I'd indeed suggest considering to dismantle this cat as redundant to "Maps of Italy by province". --DenghiùComm (talk) 08:51, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

 Disagree I strongly disagree with this proposal !!!

  • First of all this category is not redundant. Italy is divided into regions, and these in provinces, and these in municipalities. We have maps of Italy divided by regions, and other maps where Italy is subdivided into provinces. Here we have maps of regions of Italy divided by provinces. This category therefore is not redundant but useful.
  • The new name proposed ("Locator maps of regional divisions into provinces in Italy") is out of all standards, not only for the categories of Italy but I think also of Commons. So it can not be taken into account because for the names of the categories it's not only necessary clarity and precision, but also a coherence between them covering all the categorization system, of a country and also of the whole project of Commons.
  • The current name of this category is not the result of chance, but a decision taken (about three years ago) after long and intensive discussions. So it's a name decided collegially as best as possible for this kind of maps. What is possible to change in this cat name is the sort key, that in the english mind (forma mentis) wants to be reversed (i.e. in this case, not "Maps of regions in Italy by province" but "Maps of provinces in Italy by region").
  • Beyond the issue of the name of this category, I think that it's possible to reconsider collegially with greater precision the name of some subcategories of "Maps of Italy" (especially the "locator maps" from simple maps), considering the different types of maps available, but always using standard names that are consistent with the other categories names and the whole system of Commons.

 Disagree I agree with DenghiùComm, thus disagreeing the rename proposal. Nonetheless, I think that this category needs to be improved, being subdivided into further subcategories, one for each region. In such way, the contents of this category are better classified, and, incidentally, the category itself will become a meta-cat, as, in Orrling's proposal, the current name suggest. -- Vonvikken (talk) 12:06, 24 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
