Maillons and Screwgate carabiners

[edit]

Maillons and Screwgate carabiners are not the same thing! I will revert the false changes. --Jahobr (talk) 15:32, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A (unfinshed) List of technical facs that distinguish Maillons and (Screwgate) carabiners:

(Screwgate) carabiners Maillons
gate opens angular bush opens axial
three moving Parts: gate, spring, bush one moving Part: bush
closes automatically because of the spring does not
opens automatically if the outside of the gate is pressed against an object (if unlocked) does not
the bush secures the closing mechanism the bush is the closing mechanism
the bush does not carry any force and can therefore be open during or after stress the bush carries force, opening during or after stress may be very difficult
usually drop shaped usually O-shaped
designed for opening the bush by hand often designed to use a wrench
usually made from aluminum usually made from steel

I can easily provide a list that show the difference in the application as well, if there is still any doubt that (Screwgate) carabiners and Maillons are different things.
