Maillons and Screwgate carabiners
[edit]Maillons and Screwgate carabiners are not the same thing! I will revert the false changes. --Jahobr (talk) 15:32, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
A (unfinshed) List of technical facs that distinguish Maillons and (Screwgate) carabiners:
(Screwgate) carabiners | Maillons |
---|---|
gate opens angular | bush opens axial |
three moving Parts: gate, spring, bush | one moving Part: bush |
closes automatically because of the spring | does not |
opens automatically if the outside of the gate is pressed against an object (if unlocked) | does not |
the bush secures the closing mechanism | the bush is the closing mechanism |
the bush does not carry any force and can therefore be open during or after stress | the bush carries force, opening during or after stress may be very difficult |
usually drop shaped | usually O-shaped |
designed for opening the bush by hand | often designed to use a wrench |
usually made from aluminum | usually made from steel |
I can easily provide a list that show the difference in the application as well, if there is still any doubt that (Screwgate) carabiners and Maillons are different things.
