Category name change
[edit]- former discussion : Commons:Village pump
I propose to change this category name from "Category:Kyūshū" to "Category:Kyushu" which bears no Macron. It is easier to type and wouldn't do "Mojibake". Its URL will be cetainly shorter and readable.--miya (talk) 23:34, 30 September 2008 (UTC) add reasons 00:02, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- We often write "九州" as "Kyushu" perhaps more often than "Kyūshū" in Japan. As for me I don't use Macron because my favorite ja-text editor software doesn't support Macrons.
- I asked other Japanese speaking people in COM:VP/Ja which is better - "Kyushu" or "Kyūshū". They answered that Category:Kyushu is quite OK, although other cases like "里(sa-to)" and "佐藤(sa-tō or sa-toh)" discussion may be necessary.
- In Village pump AnonMoos wrote: "the current policy is that galleries can have names in non-Latin alphabets, but categories shouldn't." I quite agree to this comment. By the way even as the gallery name Kyushu is convenient for me than Kyūshū because I can't type "ū" directly with my keyboard.--miya (talk) 23:58, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- You're absolutely right, I created a new cat Kyushu and chnged the references accordingly. I will delete the old one using {badname} and save this discussion by transporting it to the new one. --Telim tor (talk) 05:52, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
