[edit]

Probably this should be moved to Category:Screenshots of websites that is a better title. You can't literally take a screenshot of Internet.. :) --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 20:12, 9 February 2017 (UTC) [reply]

Please, close your HTML tags, yourself! Incnis Mrsi (talk) 13:59, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
 Oppose. I use non-Web Internet applications daily. Not a single day I’d have a contract with a hypothetical provider whose “Internet” limited me to WWW. There is a thriving market of mobile apps that generally aren’t WWW but many of them relies on the Internet. And it’s possible to make a screenshot of a FTP site, IRC network, Telnet session, Secure Shell client… and all this is usually related to the Internet directly. Is it helpful to mix screenshots of software clients and screenshots of web pages? I think that e.g. File:FileZilla 3.7.3.png is correctly under Category:Screenshots of FileZilla. Then, Category:FileZilla is correctly under Category:File transfer clients. A category for "everything related to the Internet" is not too useful. --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 13:26, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
To mix? @Valerio Bozzolan: appears to have misconceptions about the categorization system. This is a hub for more specific categories. It has no Category: Screenshots of file transfer clients child because nobody cared to make it. Also, cluttering with directly categorized images indicates negligence of uploaders and sometimes omissions in the graph of categories (like beforementioned one), not defectiveness of the category itself. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 13:57, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Incnis Mrsi: No misconceptions. I only noted that more than 70% of the content of Category:Internet screenshots should be moved somewhere under Category:Screenshots of websites because they are literally screenshots of web pages, but also Category:Screenshots of websites is not in any-way child of Category:Internet screenshots actually. If in your opinion this is an error, I also  Oppose to the union, but we can also try to choose a less misleading name. What about moving Category:Internet screenshots to Category:Screenshots related to Internet / Category:Screenshots about Internet / ecc. (something to avoid the idea that we can screenshot the Internet)? --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 14:56, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Energy diagrams, Astronomy plots, Star charts, Television posters, and even SVG diseases and disorders… is “Internet screenshots” a bit worse than any of those? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 15:15, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, what is wrong with Screenshots_of_websites? Is it not about Internet? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 15:20, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Incnis Mrsi: Probably there were some misunderstanding here: I've nothing against Category:Screenshots of websites. --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 15:38, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Bluerasberry: if you want to achieve some further change (such as to rename the category, or eliminate it altogether), then please nominate it for discussion. Don’t hope it will magically disappear – I rollback disruption like this edit by Wieralee on par with common vandalism, and you probably would wait many years until I died. In the case of no reaction for several months I’m going to remove your {{Move}} because it only attracts ignorant edits by users having nothing to contribute to our dispute. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 13:52, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Incnis Mrsi: Why placing a specific website directly categorized here? E.g. Category:Screenshots of Wolfram Alpha it's a specific website (and a client) and so it should be in Category:Screenshots of websites (and Category:Screenshots by software). --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 19:56, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t use Wolfram Alpha and have no idea whether is it a web-only application or a polymorphous software. I only reverted a mass disruption in categories; one hasn’t necessary consult with me abour every single change. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 11:22, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Incnis Mrsi: It's a Commons rule that each requested move should be done after 14 days if there is no discussion. I am very sorry that the following the rules of Commons you define as "edit by Wieralee on par with common vandalism". This category was on the discuss list and you have got enough time to comment and discuss it. Wieralee (talk) 10:44, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    1. The “requested move” by Bluerasberry was a misuse of procedure because Screenshots of websites already existed – for non-trivial manipulations like mergers Commons:Categories for discussion is appropriate;
    2. Wieralee’s disruption happened six months after my negative comments here.
    Disruptive edits were reverted and, I hope, will be reverted in the future. Unsure why two users argue with me instead of removing an obviously outdated and misleading message box from the category page. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 11:22, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
