about the wiki-project: "European Tree of the Year"

Perhaps I should have written something about the project long ago to ensure international participation in it and to avoid unnecessary discussions. I apologize for any misunderstandings in the past. Here now follows the explanation and description of the project.

* description of the project:

this project was launched in collaboration with the Environmental Partnership Association (EPA) (see also the main-article in german language) in February 2021 to showcase each participating state's competitively nominated and awarded trees through their articles and images. It is intended to give the users/authors of the individual different language Wikipedia articles the possibilities:

* use the images of the categories

* provide the individual data objects

* enable a uniform structure for finding and using the images and data objects

* Explanations about the project:

When creating the categories and subcategories, care was taken to ensure that:

* the nominees were also participants in the competition

* the participants of the individual countries have their own subcategories and data objects.

* existing images and already created data objects were included

* the competition winners per year were presented accordingly

* as many existing images as possible could be integrated

* the new images can be sorted correctly in the future

project structure

the following structures have been created so far, with corresponding data objects per category, per participating state and per participating tree, if images are available:

* Main category: Category:European Tree of the Year

* Sub-categories:

** Trees of the countries Category:Tree of the Year by country (Trees sorted by participating countries)

** Winners of the individual years Category:ETOY contest winners

** Nominees of the individual years Category:Nominees by Year

Note: The project does not describe the tree species that were additionally selected as the so-called Tree of the Year in the various countries.

problem with Category:Tree of the Year (Estonia)‎‎

• Users thought that there was a collision of the existing images of trees from Estonia, why:
  • the data object of the participating trees from Estonia referred to the article of the Estonian selection of the Tree of the Year and not to the Estonian article of the competition European Tree of the Year.
  • the misunderstanding was solved by creating a substitute data object for the ambiguous data link.

problem with Category:Nominees by Year‎‎

• an anonymous user thinks that there is a problem with the ambiguity of the category name.
  • this argument has already been excluded with the description (see above)
  • the discussion is not yet closed
