According to reference.com and Merriam-Webster, "deers" with "-s" is an acceptable alternative plural spelling. Noo need to forcefully rename the category. --85.216.234.52 20:45, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- Look at Category talk:Deer in art. When you and User:Goldfritha will agree about deers, I'll change my mind. --Juiced lemon 22:04, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it's you you, not Goldfritha, who made the current mess by creating an empty category and introducing a confusing double system under the Category:Heraldic figures. --AtonX 13:17, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- You put the mess by creating this category with the unusual plural form deers, though other categories were correctly spelled.
First, I didn't notice that “deers” was not the normal form, and I renamed categories with “deer” in their title. I restored them when User:Goldfritha pointed my mistake. Sorry, but now, if you want to contest the normal plural form deer, see the issue with this user: I'm not an expert in English language. --Juiced lemon 12:13, 4 December 2006 (UTC)- You can see in the dictionaries, that deers is a correct alternative spelling. However, renaming categories means, someone has to recategorise all items in that category into the new one. In that case, i'd agree that the name should become Category:Deer in heraldry and that the old category Category:Deers in heraldry will be emptied and an appropriate Template:Category redirect will be put in the old category. Will You do that? --AtonX 09:04, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- All categories regarding the same subject must have the same spelling. Before your operations, the pictures were in categories which names were properly spelled. You made the mistake, you'll correct your mistake. I also noticed that many pictures in this category either have a wrong licence, or are badly categorized (no deer on the picture, or the picture is not categorized in the concerned place). --Juiced lemon 12:20, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see a mistake in using an alternative spelling for the category. I am perfectly happy with the category named with an alternative spelling or any other spelling, as long as it is consistent and all items are recategorised accordingly. If you're not happy and want to change the spelling, feel free to DO it and stop messing up the current category structure and stop bossing other people around and do something about it yourself. If you spot a badly categorised item (honestly, i don't see any, can you name them?), then change it! If you think there is a wrong licence, notify the uploader! You're simply barking up the wrong tree... --AtonX 22:24, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

- According to your own citation, the plural is "deer, (occasionally) deers."
- Emphasis mine.
- We should use the common, not the alternative, plural. Goldfritha 21:25, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. No need to be hostile about it. Ignore questions of who (if anyone) made a mistake, focus on what the most appropriate name would be as if no category had already been created, and rest assured that bots can easily "correct" any supposed "mistakes". —LX (talk, contribs) 06:27, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
