A search in Wikicommons, for for example "diagram" and "2003", gives an impression of the number of diagrams uploaded per year in the Wikipedia. The results here:

• "diagram" and "2001": 74 hits
• "diagram" and "2002": 102 hits
• "diagram" and "2003": 242 hits
• "diagram" and "2004": 786 hits
• "diagram" and "2005": 995 hits
• "diagram" and "2006": 2881 hits
• "diagram" and "2007": 3065 hits
• "diagram" and "2008": 1383 hits

In total there are some 9.528 hits here. This doesn't mean there are 9500 different articles.
