文政8年 （1825） 頃に、加藤八右衛門が西尾市街北東のハツ面山南麓に開き、長男の熊蔵が展開した。 生産初期は瓦や素焼き甕等であったが、後に常滑系、瀬戸系等の技術により、兎の斑軸を流し掛けた施軸陶器の妻・壷類や、徳利（通称「熊蔵徳利」）を制作した。
