English: This model of Wilhelm von Gloeden's appears very often (more than 80 shots) in his early production. In the empty album now at the Fondazione Alinari, Florence, the photo numbers matching him are captioned as "Peppino", so his name was Giuseppe.

He was a very early model, having been born in the late 1860s and having met the photographer around 1876/1878. He was mostly shot before Gloeden inaugurated his catalogue, since he appeared in photo # 0017, taken in 1886, as a teenager, and as an adult man in photo number 0296 already.

Because of his dark complexion, he was mistaken in the past for Pancrazio Buciunì (known for having a dark complexion too), but anagraphical reasons make this identification impossible (this model was born too early, to be Buciunì). A more likely hypothesis is that he might be identified with the "Peppino Carafasso", known to be among Gloeden's favourite early models.
