English: Whitegate is a small village on the eastern shore of Cork Harbour, Ireland. The 2003 census gives the population as 442. It was once a busy fishing port and well known for its lace-making. In the 20th century Ireland's only Oil Refinery was built on Corkbeg Island, one side of the bay and the Aghada Power Generating plant on the other. The writer William Wall b. 1955 grew up here.
