English: A wheel trencher or rockwheel uses a rotating, toothed metal wheel to create a trench. The cutting elements (6 or more depending on the diameter) are placed around the wheel in a semi-spherical configuration to increase the removal of the materials from the trench. Spacers and ejectors on the wheel allow the excavated materials to be moved away from the edges of the trench. Wheel trenchers may be mounted on either tracks or rubber tires.
