The Wainganga River – also known as Pranhita river or Vainganga river – begins in the Mahadeo Hills of south-central Madhya Pradesh, runs about 800 kilometers, and ultimately joins the Godavari river in Telangana.
It is a major tributary of Godavari, and has many important sub-tributaries of its own. These include the Wardha River, the Bagh, Bawanthadi, Kanhan, Chulband, Garhvi, and Thanwar rivers. This network of rivers have historically irrigated farms and forests of central India. They have also supported temple complexes and economic activity such as moving timber, cargo, vegetables and grain to towns and villages. This river network also helps define state and district boundaries.
