Information from entry in the SHM collections (122961_HST): Double-edged sword from Vendel, Uppland, Sweden. Iron, copper-alloy, garnet, gold, silver. 550 – 800, Vendel Age. Part of grave I. The hilt and upper part of the blade of a magnificent iron sword. The hilt is made of gilded and silver-plated, finely chiseled bronze. On the front of each crossbar are two recessed rectangular silver plates with animal ornaments in niello, with garnet discs inlaid. Reconstructed scabbard.
